Who can come to class? Seniors, men and<br />
women and/or any adult who is looking for a<br />
gentle yoga class to build range of motion<br />
and flexibility while sitting in a chair. This<br />
class is superb for any person with<br />
Fibromyalgia and Multiple Sclerosis as well.<br />
If you are currently undergoing cancer treatment,<br />
this class is free for you.<br />
What is required for this class? Please wear<br />
sneakers, comfortable clothes that you can<br />
stretch in and a big smile. Bring a bottled<br />
water to stay hydrated. Chairs will be provided.<br />

including purchasing, receiving, storing and<br />
cooking, cooling and re-heating safe food.<br />
Additional topics covered will be temperatures,<br />
chemicals, pest management, crisis<br />
management and response, equipment, cleaning<br />
and sanitation and government regulations.<br />
In Massachusetts, this program is a<br />
requirement for one to obtain a food permit<br />
for continuous operation of a food establishment.<br />
Upon successful completion you will<br />
receive food safety certification that is good<br />
for five years.<br />
Cost: $165 (book not included, but will be<br />
loaned to you), $125 recertification (must<br />
attend afternoon and take exam).<br />

This is a FREE event. Event includes the<br />
Olympic Town Carnival organized by Auburn<br />

cooked and served by Auburn/Webster Elks<br />
for athletes and volunteers. Food vending for<br />
general public including pizza, hot dogs,<br />

N.H., and has a variety of previous genealogy<br />
speaking experience in the New England area.<br />

The 19th annual Betty Curtis Worcester<br />
County Young Writers’ Conference will take<br />
place Saturday, March 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:15<br />
p.m. at Saint John’s High School. The conference<br />
is open to all Worcester County boys and<br />
girls in grades 7-12.<br />
Students will work in small groups led by<br />
local professional writers Alex Charalamides,<br />
Jim Beschta, Rodger Martin, Beth Sweeney,<br />
Don Unger, Laurel King, Linda Warren,<br />
Camille LaCroix-Moulton, John Deedy,<br />
Russell McClintock and Joe Hurka. Students<br />
have the opportunity to try two of four genres<br />
(poetry, fiction, playwriting, and creative nonfiction)<br />
and to hear poetry and fiction readings<br />
by the writing mentors.<br />
The day will end with readings by students<br />
and a keynote address by University of<br />
Massachusetts-Amherst professor, poet and<br />
essayist Martin Espada.<br />
Registration forms are due Feb. 13.<br />
Attendees are urged to register early as space<br />
is limited. The $40 registration fee includes a<br />
writing notebook, lunch and a snack.<br />
The Betty Curtis Worcester County Young<br />
Writers’ Conference encourages writing and<br />
enhances the creative writing skills of high<br />
school students. The annual event, sponsored<br />
by Saint John’s High School, has been made<br />
possible through contributions from sports<br />
author Daniel Doyle ’67, and the family of<br />
Betty Curtis. The conference honors Mrs.<br />
Curtis for the sacrifices she made to send her<br />
son, businessman Skip Curtis ’85, to Saint<br />
John’s High School, and the emphasis she<br />
placed on the importance of writing while<br />
Skip was at Saint John’s. Members of the Pen<br />
and Ink Society, a student-run club under the<br />
direction of Saint John’s faculty member<br />
Diane Mulligan, organize and staff the conference,<br />
which has attracted more than 2,000 students<br />
