Quaestio<br />
Maneesh Karna is a third year Sociology and History double<br />
major and Accounting minor who is currently pursuing college,<br />
departmental, and Latin honors. Maneesh’s paper was written<br />
under the instruction of graduate student Jesse Sadler for lower<br />
division seminar, History 97D: Freemasonry, Civil Society, and<br />
American Democracy. His research focuses on the dynamic<br />
interrelations of U.S. Freemasonry and Christianity; he is<br />
particularly interested in examining how Masonic texts challenge<br />
Christian Bible. As far as his extracurricular involvements go,<br />
Maneesh is the Scholarship Chairman and Vice President Elect<br />
of the Beta Alpha Chapter of Theta Chi Fraternity and the<br />
current president of a <strong>UCLA</strong> student group, called OX Value<br />
Investing. Maneesh’s professional goal is to become a financial<br />
analyst and he hopes to continue his hobby of writing fiction on<br />
the side.<br />
Ethan Scapellati is a fourth year History and Political Science<br />
double major. Ethan conducted the research and writing of his<br />
senior thesis (an excerpt of which is included in this journal)<br />
under the direction of Professor and History Department Vice<br />
Chair Joan Waugh. Ethan's interest has always been grounded in<br />
nineteenth century American history, and accordingly, his senior<br />
thesis focuses on Civil War soldierhood and it's manifestations<br />
during the Gilded Age and the formation of the American nation.<br />
