SEMESTER SPECIFICATIONS 1st semester: Common Understanding (Denmark) Enrollment period: September 1st 2009 to January 31st 2010 (15 ECTS credits) The aim of the semester is to create a common realm of understanding around the Nordic architectural heritage. It sets out with a presentation of participants, background and intentions of the Master course. The semester consists of 4 modules: • Theory, philosophy and history of the cultural environment and architectural heritage • Administration and policy of the cultural environment and architectural heritage • Market and Economy • Leadership and communication 2nd semester: Investigation and Documentation (Norway) Enrollment period: February 1st 2010 to August 31st 2010 (15 ECTS credits) During the second semester we will be working with investigation and documentation. In any observation of architectural circumstances and historical building surveys, intentional stated interpretations are included which appears in the documentation. The training will give the candidates a critical awareness of the relationship between object and interpretation. The semester consists of 4 modules with the titles : • Surveys • Documentation forms and methods • Nordic technique and material studies • Personal development Furthermore, a study trip is arranged in each semester week in relation to the themes of the semester.
SEMESTER SPECIFICATIONS ” I attend NORDMAK to study processes for integrated management of the cultural environment in the Nordic countries, and my work includes, among other things, the balance between development and preservation and citizen involvement in the process. The Master is an important element in the development of new strategies for cultural heritage as a social resource. ” Marianne Lehtimäki, Master´s student, Finland 3rd semester: Value Discourse (Finland) Enrollment period: September 1st 2010 to January 31st 2011 (15 ECTS credits) Given the understanding of architectural theory, philosophy and history in the Nordic and European perspective as well as the understanding of the political and economic framework for the conservation and development of the cultural environment which is established in the 1st and 2nd semester, we will work with models of valuation and the basis for these models. We will discuss a contemporary formulation of the relationship between the existing and the future, which factors are important for the valuation, and models of how the valuation can be implemented. The semester consists of 4 modules: • Methods to value discourse • Object and interpretation • Stakeholder analysis • Project and process management 4th semester: Strategies and Tools (Sweden) Enrollment Period: February 1st 2011 to August 31st 2011 (15 ECTS credits) In the fourth semester we will be working with the implementation of the value models which were developed over the previous semester, and the conditions which must be present in order for these to become a success. The Master´s student will be equipped to maintain the ”red line”, from the first meeting with the object to the precise analysis, the ability to participate in designing the agenda of the project, and to conduct the initial theoretical discussion fully into practice. The semester consists of 4 modules: • Implementation strategies • Economic management- and planning tools • Dissemination • Master´s thesis
