Chapter 6<br />
Operation Commando Razor<br />
The 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain <strong>Division</strong><br />
was operating west of the Tigris River just south<br />
of Baghdad in a largely Sunni and still very dangerous<br />
area. The "Commandos" were making steady progress, reaching<br />
out to the public, securing populated areas in remote villages,<br />
countering Sunni extremists, and building the capability<br />
of Iraqi Security Forces.<br />
On May 12th, a combined squad of seven U.S. Soldiers and<br />
one Iraqi soldier was attacked near a village they'd been assigned<br />
to protect. Five of the eight were killed and found, but<br />
three Soldiers were missing, their whereabouts unknown. Immediately,<br />
a massive search was launched across the Euphrates<br />
River Valley west of the city of Yusufiyah. The 2nd Brigade<br />
Combat Team launched a 24-hour operation called Commando<br />
Razor in order to find its missing Soldiers.<br />
