TV Coaxial Cable to Open
In Twin Cities Sept. 30
MINNEAPOLIS—Opening of the television
coaxial cable here September 30, bringing
shows, news events and such sports as the
World Series and important football contests
on a national network, is being preceded by
big campaigns to sell TV sets. Newspapers are
publishing large special sections publicizing
televsion entertainment.
Some exhibitors have predicted additional
boxoffice harm from the campaign and the
opening of the network TV shows. Reasons
given are that patrons will have less money
to spend on motion pictures because of the
purchase of TV sets.
There now are about 105,000 sets in the
area and sales are reported to be increasing
rapidly.
However, Harry B. French and Benny
Berger, Minnesota Amu.sement Co. and North
Central Allied presidents, respectively, said
they felt sure films would hold their own as
long as film quality continued good.
