Preston E. Smith Is Guest
Of Fellow Legislators
LUBBOCK, TEX.—Preston E. Smith, Lubbock
motion picture circuit operator, was the
honor guest at a barbecue at Abilene this
week arranged by about 25 colleagues in the
house of representatives. Smith will retire
December 31 from the house, in which he
has served six years. He did not seek reelection
this year because of his unsuccessful
candidacy for lieutenant governor. He ran
third in a 12-man field in that race.
Harley Sadler, widely known west Texas
showman and himself a former legislator,
was the master of ceremonies at the dinner.
Sadler informed Smith, incidentally, that he
plans to revive his tent show for a tour next
year. He has been inactive in show business
for the last two years.
Several of the legislative guests at , the
barbecue traveled more than 400 miles to
attend and joined in the unanimous adoption
of a resolution urging Smith to continue
an active role in public affairs.
Newcomers will be cast in the roles of
Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer in
Metro's screen version of "Huckleberry Finn."
