stage player, stopped over here recently
en route from New York to the west coast
at the first run theatres: "Fascination"
at the Almeda: "Faust and the Devil,"
Josephine; "No Man of Her Own," Texas;
"Louisa." Aztec, and "Mystery Street" at the
Tex.
Charles H. Wolf, former assistant manager
of the San Pedro Outdoor Theatre, has
entered officers aircraft maintenance school
at Chanute air force base in Illinois. He
now is a first lieutenant, and is one of the
first local theatremen to be called into active
duty . . . G. A. C. Halff, 70. who w-as a
pioneer radio man and chairman of the
board of directors of Southland Industries.
Inc.. which owns and operates WOAI-TV.
died here September 11.
The Sunset, Interstate neighborhood house,
has inaugurated Family nights, admitting all
children under 12 free w'hen accompanied
by their parents on Tuesdays, Wednesdays
and Thursdays . Pilot," which was
filmed partly at a local flying field, will be
released by RKO the middle of December.

Dallas story stated that Messers Kirkeby &
Erickson opened their new Scenic Drive-In
here. This ozoner is located in Brady, not
San Antonio.
Red River Dave recently filled three more
.show dates in south Texas towns; namely.
Crystal City, Devine, and Carrizo Springs
S. A. Opera Guild presented its
initial operetta, "The New Moon." with Rufus
Craddock in the leading male role at the
Municipal auditorium September 19 . . .
Booked into the Texas Theatre for a split
week engagement is "Destination Moon."
Interstate here ran a series of teaser ads
in local newspapers plugging Lana Turner's
return to the screen .several days before
Metro's "A Life of Her Own" opened at the
Hom-Ond Food Stores advertised
Majestic . . .
"Louisa" salad in full page ads in the daily
press on the day that the picture by the
same name opened at the Aztec.
Bud Whaley, onetime manager of the
Fredericksburg Road Drive-In here, opened
Saturday (1 ) with his television artists at
Club 55. Whaley is emcee of Whaley's Bailiwick,
telecast over KEYL-TV every Saturday
in addition to his stint at the Soledad street
night spot. Featured in Whaley's television
and cabaret shows are Patsy Reese, Fred
Flores, George Reese, and others . . The

Rigsby Drive-In held a talent night contest
Saturday.

Clarence Moss, manager of the Broadway,
Alamo Heights, presented "The Adventures of
Huckleberry Finn" at a Saturday matinee
kiddy show . . . "We've Never Been Licked"
played the Empire under the title of "Fighting
Command" . Marie Burkhalter. Marine
Theatre. Fort Worth, was in tow-n to contract
for Spanish-language pictures for her house
Hiram Parks. Llano Theatre, Lubbock,
also was here . Torch" played in the
Alamo. South Loop 13, and Rigsby drive-ins
day and date.
"Gateway," which was filmed recently at
Lackland base here by American Film Productions
of New York, is being released for
showing in over 100 recruiting offices throughout
the U.S. The subject will help young men
to decide whether to join that branch of
the armed service. It also portrays different
forms of technical training in the army air
force.

Rex Observes Anniversary
NOWATA, OKLA.—The New Rex Theatre,
owned by C. D. Hicks and Jake Bowden.
celebrated its first anniversary under the
Hicks-Bowden ownership recently. Door
prizes were awarded and passes were included
in
many popcorn boxes.
Tom Davidson Resigns
BORGER. TEX.—Tom Davidson, manager
of Chickasha, Okla., theatres for a number of
years and most recently manager here for
Video Independent Theatres, has resigned to
open a display advertising business here.
Educated at Northwestern
Charlton Heston. who is making a personal
appearance tour for Paramount's "Dark
City" was educated in the drama school of
Northwestern university.
