Shriners in Action
Eric Collis was born with Club Feet,
they were upside down, and pointed
sideways. Local Doctors began treating
Eric with Magic Shoes, that were held
together with an Aluminum Bar.This
involved putting on his "Magic Shoes"
each night, but since his heels weren't
in the right place they kept falling off,
thus after much crying on Eric's part and
frustration on his Parents, it was decided
that these shoes were not the answer.
Norfolk Shrine Club became aware of
Eric's problem, and decided to sponsor
him as an infant, he was taken to Erie
Hospital, and both feet were operated
on. During the course of the next few years, Eric received
Reconstructive Surgery, on both feet and Norfolk Shrine
Club provided transportation, meals, and accommodations.
After a long recovery period he was able to achieve his dream
of playing Hockey, and at age 5, he was enrolled in the Tykes,
Novices, Atoms, and later Pee Wee, with the Simcoe Warriors.
He also played Baseball in Vittoria, and Soccer in Delhi.
Moving on a few years Eric
graduated from Simcoe
Composite School with Honors,
and is hoping to go to Mohawk
College in Sept.
As Eric grew older it became
apparent that both heels were
extended outward, which caused
poor load bearing, and much pain.
He got a job at Zellers as Stock Boy
but his feet and ankles were not
up to the strain
On Jan. 30/11 He was again admitted to Erie, his left leg
had a steel rod inserted in his heel and ankle, and a cast
applied. He has since had the cast changed twice, and the
rod removed. He is currently in walking cast, and well on his
way to recovery.
The Collis Family are most grateful to the Norfolk Shrine Club,
and Erie Hospital for
making it possible for
him to lead a normal
pain free life.
To all a
very big
THANK YOU.
