DAUGHTERS OF THE NILE
Contribute 3rd million to
Shriners Hospitals for
Children - Canada
Montreal, July 18, 2009 -- Daughters
of the Nile is an international
fraternal organization for women 18
years of age or older, who are related by birth or marriage
to a Shriner, Master Mason or Daughter of the Nile (DON).
On July 18, 2009, Supreme Queen Vesta Marshall made
her official visit to Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC)-
Canada and unveiled a plaque recognizing the third
million dollars contributed by the Canadian Daughters of
the Nile.
“This donation represents many hours of devoted time
and talents on the part of the Canadian Daughters of the
Nile to raise this amount of money. These ladies are
passionate about our work and show much love for our
Order and I thank them for their continued devotion”, said
Mrs. Marshall during the official ceremony held at SHC-
Canada on Cedar Avenue in Montreal. During the
Supreme Session in London, Ontario, on June 11th, 2009
the Daughters of the Nile crowned Vesta Marshall as
Supreme Queen for the North American charitable
organization. She is the 8th Canadian to receive this
honour.
The 2,900 Canadian members in twelve centers across
Canada maintain a Convalescent Endowment Fund and a
Convalescent Relief Fund, known as the Canadian Trust,
to support the advanced medical care of the patients at
the Canadian Shriners Hospital for Children in Montréal.
The Trust is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency
as a registered charity and recognized by the CRA as a
Public Foundation.
Founded in 1913 in Seattle, Washington, Daughters of the
Nile now totals over 34,000 members in 147 cities
throughout the United States and Canada. The members
of Daughters of the Nile are proud of their long
association with the Shrine of North America and their
continuing support of the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
Shriners support 22 hospitals in the United States,
Canada and Mexico. The Montreal hospital is the first of
the twenty-two hospitals to receive over three million
dollars in donations from the Daughters of the Nile.
Members have travelled from the all over the United
States and Canada for this very special event.
