Contribute 3rd million to<br />

<strong>Shriners</strong> Hospitals for<br />

Children - Canada<br />

Montreal, July 18, <strong>2009</strong> -- Daughters<br />

of the Nile is an international<br />

fraternal organization for women 18<br />

years of age or older, who are related by birth or marriage<br />

to a Shriner, Master Mason or Daughter of the Nile (DON).<br />

On July 18, <strong>2009</strong>, Supreme Queen Vesta Marshall made<br />

her official visit to <strong>Shriners</strong> Hospitals for Children (SHC)-<br />

Canada and unveiled a plaque recognizing the third<br />

million dollars contributed by the Canadian Daughters of<br />

the Nile.<br />

“This donation represents many hours of devoted time<br />

and talents on the part of the Canadian Daughters of the<br />

Nile to raise this amount of money. These ladies are<br />

passionate about our work and show much love for our<br />

Order and I thank them for their continued devotion”, said<br />

Mrs. Marshall during the official ceremony held at SHC-<br />

Canada on Cedar Avenue in Montreal. During the<br />

Supreme Session in London, Ontario, on June 11th, <strong>2009</strong><br />

the Daughters of the Nile crowned Vesta Marshall as<br />

Supreme Queen for the North American charitable<br />

organization. She is the 8th Canadian to receive this<br />

honour.<br />

The 2,900 Canadian members in twelve centers across<br />

Canada maintain a Convalescent Endowment Fund and a<br />

Convalescent Relief Fund, known as the Canadian Trust,<br />

to support the advanced medical care of the patients at<br />

the Canadian <strong>Shriners</strong> Hospital for Children in Montréal.<br />

The Trust is registered with the Canada Revenue Agency<br />

as a registered charity and recognized by the CRA as a<br />

Public Foundation.<br />

Founded in 1913 in Seattle, Washington, Daughters of the<br />

Nile now totals over 34,000 members in 147 cities<br />

throughout the United States and Canada. The members<br />

of Daughters of the Nile are proud of their long<br />

association with the Shrine of North America and their<br />

continuing support of the <strong>Shriners</strong> Hospitals for Children.<br />

<strong>Shriners</strong> support 22 hospitals in the United States,<br />

Canada and Mexico. The Montreal hospital is the first of<br />

the twenty-two hospitals to receive over three million<br />

dollars in donations from the Daughters of the Nile.<br />

Members have travelled from the all over the United<br />

States and Canada for this very special event.<br />

relieved him at his post & of course I forget his name. He<br />

was on the early shift at post # 55 at Talbot & Ann.<br />

It was a great event that was well organized & lots of fun. I'll<br />
