Hope the so called summer thus far has been good for you and your families, and I look forward to seeing many of you at various functions over the next 3 months. Nobles, I don't want to fill our magazine with doom and gloom, but many of our loyal advertisers can no longer see their way clear to continue advertising with us, blame it on the economy, weather, or whatever you like but the bottom line is, we need advertisers to enable us to continue to bring you this fine publication. I guess what I'm asking is, if you know someone, or some group who may be able to let us run their ad in the Mocha News, please contact me or the girls in the office. Thanks again to all those people who faithfully send me articles for the News, I greatly appreciate them. Before I conclude my Nobles let me take this opportunity to personally welcome all the new Shriners into Mocha Temple, and may you all find your dream in one of our fine Clubs and Units. Yogi Berra In today's competitive marketplace, all major corporations, whether for profit or charitable, must operate from the vision of a flexible strategic plan. Mocha Shriners, its clubs and units as well as The Shrine of North America, is no exception. We must recognize the competitive forces vying for men's time, leadership, and humanitarian commitment in today's society. In addition, we recognize the need to examine our own internal demands - fiscal, structural and organizational. Since 1872, the Shrine of North America has provided a fraternal organization, coupled with its charitable opportunities, which has attracted men of good character, and united them in a spirit of fun, fellowship and social camaraderie. Through Mocha, we wish to continue to encourage personal growth through the perpetuation of moral values, leadership opportunity, family involvement, and service to children and young adults with special health care needs. Having a strategic plan is designed to set in place, at all levels of the Mocha Shrine and club organization, the mechanisms, structure and programs necessary to support the fundamental mission of the Shrine, which is to continue its pre-eminence as the most recognized and effective fraternity in North America. Good things are ahead for Mocha and all clubs and units if we all partner together, unify our efforts and support the goals and objectives that are before us. It is Important that each club look at several important areas: • Retain current members and attract new candidates • Regularly support and interact with all Masonic Lodges in your jurisdiction 1. Form and promote the use of Shrine-Mason degree teams. 2. Encourage members to be active in their respective lodges and to assist with membership development in Masonic bodies. 3. Coordinate Masonic calendars with other Masonic family bodies. 4. Have joint events with other Masonic family bodies. • Develop a meaningful relationship with our communities. Communicate with leaders of every non-profit, civic and community provider as well as media members by telling the story of Shriners and Shriners Hospitals for Children. • Disperse information and resources to all members clearly, effectively and in a timely manner. Keep informed and stay informed. • Is enough information on leadership, Shrine law, our hospital system and Mocha in general available to the membership? • Develop and maintain competent and committed leaders. • Ensure that each club is financially sound. Income and expense must be budgeted realistically in order for bottom line to be positive. • Should each club and unit continue to have separate Installations and events - do we need to join together - such as having tri club Installations - or have more events at Mocha? Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, Strategic planning saves wasted time, every minute spent in planning saves ten minutes in execution.We must develop strategies to meet the challenges and rapid changes expected in the coming years. The time to simply talk about changes and what should be done has to come to an end and a plan with committed actions must emerge. As our Lodge ritual states “The heart may conceive and the head devise in vain if the hand be not prompt to execute the design”. Welcome to all new members and meet 2 of them here.
