20.4. Judgments Ordering Parties to Act.<br />

For cases in which the court orders a party or parties to act, specificity is crucial. Be<br />

clear and precise, identifying exactly what act is required and <strong>of</strong> whom.<br />

HOW TO WRITE JUDGMENTS ORDERING PARTIES TO ACT<br />

The writ is granted in part and denied in part. Respondents are ordered<br />

to provide access to the requested investigative records, but they may<br />

not release those parts that contain identifying information regarding<br />

uncharged suspects.<br />

The writ <strong>of</strong> mandamus is granted, and respondents are ordered to certify<br />

Richard Roe as a candidate for the <strong>of</strong>fice <strong>of</strong> mayor <strong>of</strong> the village <strong>of</strong><br />

Anytown.<br />

We order the Industrial Commission to vacate its order and issue a new<br />

order allowing temporary total disability benefits from July 23, 2005, to<br />

October 2, 2006.<br />
