A. United <strong>State</strong>s <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong> cases<br />

In citing the opinions <strong>of</strong> the United <strong>State</strong>s <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong>, place the elements <strong>of</strong><br />

the citation in the following order:<br />

• The name <strong>of</strong> the case, in italics, followed by a comma;<br />

• The full parallel citation, beginning with the <strong>of</strong>ficial citation, followed<br />

by the <strong>Supreme</strong> <strong>Court</strong> Reports, followed by the Lawyers’ Edition,<br />

separated by commas;<br />

• The year <strong>of</strong> decision, in parentheses.<br />

Use United <strong>State</strong>s Law Week (U.S.L.W.) only when no U.S., S.Ct., or L.Ed.2d<br />

citation is available. When citing a case that has not yet been assigned a U.S.<br />

Reports volume and page number, provide blanks: ___ U.S .___.<br />
