2. In making the vision happen identify which sectors of the sustainable tourism<br />
industry will have to work more deeply together and on what activities?<br />
• Education<br />
• Historic Preservation – Preserve funding increase<br />
• Transportation – Bus/Trains/Ferry – Schedules need to coincide and buses need to be more<br />
fuel efficient<br />
• <strong>Tourism</strong> councils need to work together to bring people in during off seasons<br />
• Hotel (Hospitality) – Packages to entice people to come<br />
• Great Transportation network<br />
• Hospitality – Lodging, Food, and Restrooms<br />
• Utilize assets for tourism<br />
- Green transport<br />
- <strong>Sustainable</strong> lodging options<br />
- Locally-based attractions<br />
- Local farms<br />
• Non-fossil fuel burning transport<br />
• History – Celebrate heritage places, art, and culture<br />
• Linkage, to include transportation from Education<br />
- Green Practices to bring back to home base<br />
3. To achieve the vision… what new policies will be required - Better use of technology;<br />
additional collaborations among the councils; leadership development opportunities?<br />
• Work with GPS firms such as Garmin and Tom Tom to include Rhode Island visitor locations in<br />
their built in programs<br />
• Develop more solar, wind, and geothermal energy<br />
• Tour RI could happen during the off-seasons too.<br />
• Regionalization, but bring money here.<br />
• Unions – Bid selections – Fair work environment for both employee and employer<br />
• Accessible and alternative waterfront<br />
• Better Image (Less stigma)<br />
• Continue revitalization of building<br />
