1992 a Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Management. In 1991 a School of<br />
Innovation and Enterprise was established and an existing Graduate Diploma in<br />
Management added to the suite of programs. The Graduate Certificate in Training<br />
Management was developed in 1992/3. Since 1993, CIE has also offered its programs<br />
in Singapore, and is now presented in Israel.<br />
In 1994 the structure of the University was revised and the School of Innovation and<br />
Enterprise became a Centre within the School of Management.<br />
The CIE offers:<br />
• accredited postgraduate programs in the areas of innovation, entrepreneurship,<br />
management, and training management in Australia and overseas;<br />
• accredited postgraduate programs, short courses, and training in corporations<br />
or other organisations, both in Australia and overseas;<br />
• contract consulting services.<br />
The Centre for Innovation and Enterprise Pty Ltd is a specific example of <strong>Swinburne</strong>'s<br />
general commitmentto the provision of high calibre educational programs which are<br />
simultaneously atthe academic leading edge and directly applicable to the specific<br />
needs of commerce and industry.<br />

The Media and Telecommunications Centre is part of the Institute of Social Research<br />
in the School of Social and Behavioural Sciences. Its role is to initiate educational<br />
programs that will foster closer cooperative connections with industry and the wider<br />
community. The activities it has undertaken include:<br />
• the Commercial Radio Course to provide training forthose planning a career in<br />
commercial radio;<br />
• in conjunction with media studies coursework in the Bachelor of Arts program,<br />
the production of <strong>Swinburne</strong> publications and publication of local community<br />
newsletters;<br />
• the presentation of short courses on a variety of media-related subjects (such<br />
as media regulation, techniques of radio production, media in the classroom,<br />
media awareness) and desktop publishing skills;<br />
• a publishing program of dossiers and monographs on film, television and general<br />
media subjects;<br />
• research consultancies on telecommunications and media in the Pacific, Asia<br />
and Australia;<br />
• a short course in international communications; economics and regulatory<br />
policy.<br />
High profile public speaking engagements, especially on major trends in the<br />
communications field. This also involves fee for service engagements to<br />
secondary schools involved with VCE/CATs on media SUbjects.<br />
Specialised research projects including studies on interactive online services<br />
and on telecommunications futures in association with the Centre for<br />
International Research in Communications and Information Technologies<br />
(CIRCIT).<br />

Established in 1989, the Centre aims to provide a focus for research and teaching for<br />
the power generation, mineral and chemical process industries.<br />
In meeting its obligations, the Centre is developing three majorthrusts:<br />
• development and application of numerical models such as manufacturing<br />
process models, finite element and finite difference models of thermo-fluid and<br />
material deformation processes;<br />
• development of 'leading edge' physical modelling diagnostic tools. In this area<br />
the centre is committed to the continuing development of its laser/Doppler<br />
velocimeter as a non-intrusive technique for single and two-phase flow<br />
measurement and flow borne particle sizing;<br />
• development of specially designed technical computing software.<br />

The National Centre for Women (NCW) is an initiative of <strong>Swinburne</strong> University of<br />
Technology. Within a national framework the Centre aimsto create innovative study<br />
and work environments that recognise and build on gender and cultural diversity.<br />
In order to meet this objective, the Centre provides, on a fee for service basis, a<br />
range of services, products and research findings which encourage the exchange of<br />
ideas and practices between industry and post-secondary education. The NCW can<br />
playa significant and supportive role by enhancing an organisations ability to respond<br />
to an increasingly diverse and dynamic set of business and educational challenges.<br />
Our consultancy service has four inter-related emphases: research, design and<br />
development, project management, and profiling diversity.<br />

The National Korean Studies Centre (established 1991) is a joint venture of Swinbume<br />
University, Monash University and the University of Melbourne. The mission ofthe centre<br />
is:<br />
• to develop and expand teaching, research and associated activities in Korean Studies,<br />
including language, culture, politics, law, business, education and otherrelevant<br />
disciplines;<br />
• to enhance the Australian community's knowledge and understanding of Korea;<br />
• to support Australia's economic and other national development strategies.<br />
Building on existing teaching programs conducted in consortium member institutions<br />
and in institutions Australia-wide, the Centre:<br />
• fosters the design and delivery of vocationally and culturally relevant Korean<br />
language and studies courses in all sectors ofthe Australian education system;<br />
• fosters and undertakes high quality research relevantto Korean Studies and to<br />
Australia-Korea relations;<br />
• promotes greater mutual awareness of all aspects of the Australia-Korea business<br />
and trade relationship;<br />
promotes student and staff exchanges between Australian and Korean<br />

The Centre for Organisation and Strategic Studies (COSS) was established in 1996.<br />
The aim ofthis centre is to become a nationally and internationally recognised<br />
research centre of organisational and strategic studies. The centre aims to attract<br />
postgraduate research students ofthe highest calibre to facilitate visits from<br />
internationally respected fellows, to develop collaborative ventures with other<br />
research groups worldwide, to disseminate its research findings to both the<br />
academic and the broader community, and to maintain an ongoing colloquium<br />
