for newmarket centre<br />

<strong>Leisure</strong> trust Anglia Community<br />

<strong>Leisure</strong> (ACL) has opened a new<br />

dedicated personal training facility<br />

at the Newmarket <strong>Leisure</strong> Centre.<br />

The new studio offers a range of<br />

equipment including Technogym’s<br />

Kinesis One cable-based system.<br />

Jo Gathercole, health and<br />

fi tness manager at Newmarket<br />

<strong>Leisure</strong> Centre, says: “This is a<br />

fully equipped private area<br />

where customers can complete<br />

their personal training session<br />

without interruption from of<br />

other users or the frustrations of<br />

unavailable equipment.”<br />

channels merge<br />

Body in Balance TV and Fitness TV<br />

have merged their businesses to<br />

form a new venture called <strong>Media</strong><br />

Health and Fitness.<br />

The new company will retain the<br />

two channel platforms formerly<br />

occupied by the original companies<br />

on Sky (SKY 275 and 282).<br />

Mark Wood, former chair and<br />

CEO of ITN, will head the newly<br />

merged company.<br />

Wood says of the merger:<br />

“The combined business is a great<br />

launch pad to build a global brand<br />

in fi tness and lifestyle content<br />

and develop an e-commerce and<br />

merchandising portal.”<br />

Fitness TV was launched in 2009<br />

on the SKY platform, setting itself<br />

an ambitious target of attracting<br />

600,000 viewers each week.<br />

£15m centre for tyneside<br />

South Tyneside Council (STC) is set<br />

to move forward with plans to<br />

develop a new £15m swimming pool<br />

and health club in South Shields.<br />

The facility, which will be located<br />

on the town’s seafront – Pier Parade<br />

– will include a large health and fi tness<br />

club, a 25m swimming pool with<br />

spectator seating, a learner pool,<br />

leisure waters and a sauna.<br />

A multi-purpose space, a tourism<br />

information centre, a library access<br />

point and an outdoor performance<br />

area linked to the park are also<br />

included in the plans, which are<br />

expected to be submitted in the spring.<br />

STC lead member for culture<br />

and wellbeing, Tracey Dixon, says:<br />

“The Foreshore pool complex is an<br />

investment for the future and the<br />

building will be designed to ensure it’s<br />

sustainable and energy effi cient.<br />

“It’s great news for the people of<br />

South Tyneside because the pool will<br />

bring great benefi ts for them; it will<br />

Plans for the centre include a 25m<br />

Health is investing £500,000 in<br />

redeveloping four of its sites.<br />

The four centres – in East Kilbride,<br />

St Albans, Warwick and Bishop’s<br />

Stortford – will be kitted out with new<br />

equipment supplied by Life Fitness.<br />

The St Albans centre has already<br />

received 56 new pieces of fi tness kit,<br />

including Life Fitness’ Engage Elevation<br />

CV range, which includes integrated<br />

17-inch TVs with touch-screen, iPod<br />

connectivity and Virtual Trainer.<br />
