Importance of <strong>Population</strong> <strong>Education</strong> for the Trainees<br />

<strong>Population</strong> <strong>Education</strong> will help the trainees to:<br />

1. Develop awareness and understanding about population issues-•<br />

• <strong>Population</strong> situation at the national and global level;<br />

• Process and causes of population change;<br />

• Concept of quality of life in different socio-cultural settings;<br />

• <strong>In</strong>ter-relationship between population change and different aspects of<br />

life at the micro and macro level;<br />

• Relationship between population change and consumption of resources<br />

now and in future; and<br />

• National concerns and priorities.<br />

2. Understand the physiological and emotional changes during the process of<br />

growing up.<br />

3. Acquire correct information about sexuality and reproductive health.<br />

4. Acquire information about marriage and responsible parenthood.<br />

5. Form right attitudes about gender roles and family responsibilities.<br />

6. Adopt responsible reproductive behaviour.<br />

7. Develop rational attitudes, values and skills for taking responsible<br />

decisions and actions regarding population related issues and quality of<br />

life.<br />

Step-4 Tell the trainees that -<br />

• The main concepts involved in <strong>Population</strong> <strong>Education</strong> are <strong>Population</strong>, Socio-economic<br />

Development, Environment and Quality of Life. We will now attempt to understand<br />

these concepts.<br />

Step-5 Divide the class into four equal groups and name them as -<br />

1. <strong>Population</strong> Group<br />

2. Socio-Economic Development Group<br />

3. Environment Group<br />

4. Quality of Life Group<br />

Step-6. a. Give the following task to the groups by writing on the blackboard-<br />

Task<br />

Each Group has to discuss and describe in writing the underlined term of its<br />

name in terms of its components/ elements/characteristics.<br />

Note: You can explain the task by giving the following example-<br />
