'Psycho' and 'Apartment' Joined<br />
By Bells as Broadway Leaders<br />
Long lines virtually surrounded the New York Paramount Theatre for the<br />
opening of "The Story of Ruth." The 39 benefit premieres in every 20th Century-<br />
Fox branch city returned more than one million dollars to various charities. In<br />
New York the Musicians Aid Society, Inc., was the recipient.<br />
NEW YORK—Broadway business continued<br />
fine leading up to the holiday weekend,<br />
with "Bells Are Ringing" opening<br />
smash at the Radio City Music Hall;<br />
"Psycho" and "The Apartment" continuing<br />
to do terrific trade, and the old reliables,<br />
"Ben-Hur" and "Can-Can," still hitting a<br />
fast pace. "The Story of Ruth" did well<br />
at the Paramount, fell off at the Normandie,<br />
but hasn't been thoroughly tested yet.<br />
"Man in a Cocked Hat" was another good<br />
one.<br />
Among the newcomers to Broadway will<br />
be "Elmer Gantry" lUAi at the Capitol,<br />
"Strangers When We Meet" iColi at the<br />
Criterion, "Ice Palace"
