Jake Silverman Dies;
In Exhibition Since '04
PITTSBURGH—Jacob Silverman, a 58-
year veteran of motion picture exhibition,
died at his home in
Altoona at the age of
87, ending a Ufelong
of
r' for the benefit
of the Wiltwyck School for Boys.
Also on hand for the opening were Susan
Kohner, who plays Freud's wife in the
film. Also attending were Jane Fonda,
Tony Randall, Zachary Scott, Veronica
Lake, Darren McGavin, Lee Remick, Eli
Wallach, Arlene Francis, Carlos Montalban,
Betty Comden and Adolph Green.
"Freud" started its regular continuousrun
engagement at the theatres Thursday
(13). The picture will also open in Los
Angeles later in December to qualify the
film for Academy Award consideration.
Ballet Star Attends
Opening of Coronet
NEW YORK—LudmiUa Tcherina, ballerina-star
of "The Lovers of Teruel," was
guest of honor at the American premiere of
the Continental Distributing release at
Walter Reade's new Coronet Theatre Friday
1 14). A champagne party followed the opening
with Walter Reade jr. as host.
Among those attending were Leonard
Bernstein, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Bennett Cerf, Rita
Gam. Cyril Ritchard. Lillian Roth, Joey
Adams, Shelley Winters, Chita Rivera,
Arthur- and Mrs. Murray, Senator and Mrs.
Javits and Helen Gallagher.
'Electra' to Beekman
NEW YORK — Michael Cacoyannis"
"Electra," being distributed by Lopert Pictures,
will have its American premiere at
the Beekman Theatre Monday (17). The
motion picture version of the Euripides
classic was the winner of two awards at the
1962 Cannes Film Festival.
