Arthur W. Clark Seeking
Carmel Theatre Permit
MONTEREY, CALIF. — An application
for a 471-seat motion picture theatre has
been filed by Arthur W. Clark of Pebble
Beach with the Carmel planning commission.
If granted a permit, Clark would
build the concrete block and used brick
structure on an 8,000-square foot area on
the west side of Mission street, 80 feet north
of Eighth avenue. A residence now occupies
the site.
The commission's design review committee
goes along with Clark's submitted floor
and landscaping plans but has urged that
the "architectural treatment should be
made more interesting and in keeping with
Carmel's architectural style."
Carmel has only one theatre, the Golden
Bough Cinema at Monte Verde street and
Eighth avenue. The old Carmel Theatre
on Ocean avenue was demolished several
years ago when the Carmel Shopping center
took over its site.

Dick Lang, fonner RKO Portland manager,
was killed recently in a car-pedestrian
accident . Walsh, who operated
theatres for Mrs. Parker in Portland, died
Cherokee Theatre at Othello,
Wash., operated by the John Lee circuit,
burned to the ground . . . The Ritz Theatre,
Ritzville, has been closed.
The target date for completion of the new
Seattle Cinerama Theatre is February 1
Alice Haydon is a new secretary at
Sterling . a color film, played
four days at the Palomar Theatre as part of
the World Cavalcade series.

The Denver Theatre booked for one day
only an opera program made up of
"Tosca" and "La Traviata" . . . Bill Hastings,
manager of the Orpheum Theatre,
was awarded first prize in the RKO 75th
anniversary showmanship contest . . . Oscar
Galanter, office manager at MGM, was ill
several days screened "Diamond
Head" at the Towne Theatre .

Advance ticket sales for "Mutiny on the
Bounty" at the Denham Theatre are selling
at $1.25 to $2.50 top . . . The Paramount
had television station KBTV personalities
on the stage for its annual Christmas party.
Two bicycles were awai'ded as prizes.
Sympathy to Columbia office manager
Tom Robinson upon the death of his father
Dobson, manager for United
Artists, is playing a dual role in the industry.
While on vacation, Dobson visited the
location of "McLintock" in Tucson and
withm short order had been cast and costumed
as an Indian agent in the picture
many years, Raymond Borcherdt,
Nucla Theatre at Nucia, is retiring and
turning over operation to his son Martin
and daughter-in-law Mary Ellen.

LOS ANGELES—President John Tranchitella
and his entire administration have
been named to new two-year terms by
members of Local 47, American Federation
of Musicians. The only contested office was
for vice-president, won by incumbent Max
Herman.

America West council has okayed the development
of a quarterly, and named an
editorial board consisting of Allen Rivkin,
