Personal Statement: Healthcare is facing many new<br />

challenges and transformations since the Patient Protection<br />

and Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2012. These<br />

challenges and transformations will create leadership<br />

opportunities for the nursing practice, which makes it<br />

critical to have appropriately educated nurses and also<br />

professional organizations to support the nursing profession.<br />

For this reason, I would like to participate as a Nominations<br />

Committee member in the <strong>South</strong> <strong>Dakota</strong> Nursing <strong>Association</strong>.<br />

can make a big impact on our health care system. I am<br />

interested in consideration for the SDNA Nominations<br />

Personal Statement: SDNA needs thoughtful minds and<br />

strong voices to keep nurses at the table and involved in safe<br />

patient care decisions, policy decisions at the legislative level,<br />

and mentoring our next generation of leaders. It has been<br />

a privilege to be a member of a state association and ANA<br />

since graduation as a new RN staff nurse and have had the<br />

opportunity to serve on local district, state, and national levels<br />

in various positions. Leadership skill development through<br />

our professional nursing association at all levels is extremely<br />

valuable personally and for the profession of nursing. I invite<br />

you to consider serving on an SDNA Committee or as an<br />

officer in SDNA to further your own leadership development.<br />

Please step up and let the nominations committee know of<br />

your interest and/or say “yes” when invited to serve.<br />
