NEW HAMPSHIRE<br />

Shooting Center and did some fancy shooting,<br />
as well as speaking about the Winchester<br />
National Cla\bird Tournament, of which<br />
he was named national director. He was on<br />
a barnstorming ten-day tour through seven<br />
cities.<br />
Theatre operators were pleased to hear a<br />
report from the New Hampshire Department<br />
of Employment Security that unemployment<br />
in the state had decreased another<br />
100 workers, bringing the jobless figure<br />
down to 3.850. Total unemployment as of<br />
mid-September 1965 stood at 5,900. or 2.1<br />
per cent of the work force, as compared to<br />
the new figure of \.} per cent.<br />
The Audrey Hepburn film, "How to Steal<br />
a Million." went into its second big week<br />
at the Queen Cinema Theatre, formerly the<br />
State, in Manchester. At the King Cinema.<br />

To Renovate ESE Coliseum<br />
WEST SPRINGFIELD, MASS.—The<br />
Hoard of trustees of the Eastern States Exposition<br />
has voted to spend $250,000 for current<br />
and immediate renovations of the coliseum<br />
and also to imdertake a canvass of<br />
New England governors to explore the possibility<br />
of building a new coliseum on a regional<br />
basis.<br />
Governor's Proclomation Marks Start<br />
Of 'Movie Month in Massachusetts<br />
BOSTON — A proclamation Iroiu Cjo\.<br />
John A. Voipe kicked off "Movie Month<br />
in Massachusetts" as part of the Theatre<br />
Owners of New England promotion in<br />
connection with National Movie Month<br />
in October, Carl Goldman, executive secretary<br />
and legislative counsel of TONE, announced.<br />
Similar proclamations are expected to be<br />
issued for exhibitors in each of the other five<br />
New England states— Maine. New Hampshire.<br />
Vermont. Rhode Island and Connecticut.<br />
National NUnie Month in October in New<br />
Llngland is kicking off with "a heavy degree<br />
of enthusiasm and promotion" both by<br />
TONE and its member exhibitors. Cioldman<br />
reported, and Edward S. Redstone, president<br />
of TONE and president of Redstone Theatres,<br />
chairman of National Movie Month in<br />
New England committee, said: "It's time for<br />
every exhibitor to get going— it's shoot-theworks<br />
time!"<br />

"We feel this is an important el fort to<br />
gel people to go to more movies." Redstone<br />
continued. "The film companies are releasing<br />
a flow of good releases in a lean period<br />
to keep the momentum of summer business<br />
going. Now is the time for theatre owners<br />
to capitalize on this project, locally and effectively.<br />
The grass-roots program should be<br />
followed through at the local level for maximum<br />
impact. It will undoubtedly reactivate<br />
filmgoing and. coupled with the local efforts<br />
and the national program, should bring good<br />
business in theatres.<br />
"National Movie Month can only be<br />
spelled out in increased ticket sales. It is up<br />
to exhibitors to make the most of what we<br />
are being given and to utilize all the tools<br />
for a tremendous grass-roots effort.<br />

great success, not only in our own locations<br />
but all over the countrv."<br />

of Interstate Theatres, and James Mahoncy,<br />
general manager of Interstate Theatres,<br />
set the stage for one of the biggest promotions<br />
lor films in its history. .A kit. containing<br />
material from NATO, and localK<br />
produced ad mats, press releases to be planted<br />
in local newspapers, radio spots. T\<br />
spots, photo stills, banner and sign copy, has<br />
been set to every New England exhibitor<br />
member gratis.<br />
