Adiabatic Compression
Adiabatic Gas Law Apparatus
TD-8565
P Investigate the Compression
of Gases
P Computer Monitors Temperature,
Pressure and Volume
Volume Transducer
A linear potential divider
monitors the position of
the piston.
Compression Igniter
TD-8577
P Adiabatic compression ignites paper!
P 20:1 compression ratio
P Works every time
P Durable and cleanable
Put a small piece of tissue paper into
the cylinder and quickly push down on
the piston. In a quick compression there
is no time for heat to be exchanged between
the air inside and its surroundings, causing the
temperature to rise well above the combustion
temperature of paper.
Students will be amazed
to see the paper catch
on fire without a match.
Plastic Safety Shield
Precision Glass Tube
Optional Force Platform
Three Signal Cables
Carry the volume, pressure
and temperature signals to
the computer.
Temperature Sensor
Measures rapid changes in
temperature as the resistance
of a fine nickel wire changes.
Piston
DataStudio
monitors
pressure,
temperature
and volume
as a gas is
compressed
rapidly.
Experiments
PASCO’s Adiabatic Gas Law can be used
with the ScienceWorkshop Interface. The
computer functions as a 3-channel storage
os cil lo scope, plotting graphs of pressure,
temper a ture and volume as well as integrating
the area under a pressure versus
volume curve to determine the work done
on the gas.
Adiabatic Gas Law Apparatus ...............TD-8565
Required:
A computer with an interface that will accept three
analog signals simultaneously via 5 or 8-pin DIN connectors
such as: PASCO’s ScienceWorkshop 500 and
750 Interfaces.
Bottom
Easy Cleanout
This Compression Igniter has been specially
designed to be cleanable. The bottom screws off
to clean out the soot and to load the paper. The
large piston handle decreases the pressure on
your hand and makes it easier to hit the piston
quickly.
The glass tube is surrounded by plastic for safety,
and in the event that the glass tube breaks, the
glass tube can be replaced.
Includes
Compression Igniter
Spare Glass Tube with “O” Rings
Cleaning Wire
Complete instructions with theory
Pressure data is calculated using the force measured
by the Force Platform. Temperature is calculated
assuming adiabatic compression.
