The Venturi apparatus has a channel with<br />
varying cross-section to study the relationship<br />
between flow speed and pressure. The open<br />
design (2D cross section) allows students to<br />
see inside and directly measure all needed<br />
dimensions.<br />
There are four built-in ports to attach pressure<br />
sensors to measure the pressure at four places<br />
along the stream line simultaneously. Pressure<br />
changes caused by both fluid speed and<br />
viscosity (drag) can be measured.<br />
Designed to work with both air (see photo at<br />
right), and water (see below).<br />

Venturi Apparatus<br />
The Venturi Apparatus (above) is<br />
shown using a shop vacuum<br />
as the air source. A Spirometer<br />
(PS-2152) measures air flow and a<br />
Quad Pressure Sensor (PS-2164)<br />
measures air pressure in four<br />
locations. See graph at left. P 2 and<br />
P 4 are in the Venturi constrictions,<br />
and P 4 is downstream from P 1 .<br />

The graph (above shows<br />
water pressure data at three<br />
different flow rates. The<br />
flow rate is calculated using<br />
Motion Sensor data of the<br />
water level in the graduated<br />
cylinder.<br />
The clear plastic cover can be easily removed so that students can measure<br />
the dimensions of the Venturi channel.<br />
