This course is for the student who wishes to become
familiar with food preparation skills, as well as, concepts
of nutrition, meal planning, proper measurement,
kitchen safety and food sanitation. Organizational
skills, time management, and budgeting are also
emphasized. Demonstrations and food preparation
labs, serving a variety of foods, are featured in this
course. Cooking a complete meal for your family is
required.

Creative Cuisine

Creative meal planning, advanced cooking techniques
used in preparation of cuisine, cake decorating, candy
making, and foreign cookery are several of the areas
explored. An advanced course designed for the
student who already is experienced with basic food
preparation. Students will gain experience through
demonstrations and labs.
Prerequisite: Life Skills, or Contemporary Foods, or
Independent Living (if approved by teacher).
Housing and Interior
Design

This course is designed for the student who wishes to
explore the many aspects of housing and home design.
The concepts and use of floor plans, design components
and techniques, furniture style and selection, as well
as lifestyle and personal preference considerations
for home design will be emphasized. A final design
project applying the design techniques taught in class
will be featured. Guest speakers, videos and field trips
are included.

Family Living

This course will address the problems faced by teenagers:
peer pressure, decision-making, family relationships,
pregnancy, and dating. Students are encouraged
to explore their feelings on marriage, parenthood,
morals and values. Discussion, lecture, films, and
outside speakers are featured in this course. Students
will plan and participate in a ‘mock wedding’. This
course offers no tests!
