Madrigal Choir is a mixed choir utilizing soprano, alto,
tenor, and bass. This choir will explore more advanced
vocal techniques. The ensemble will develop an advanced
repertoire of choral music as well as a repertoire
that is more suited to a smaller group (i.e. madrigals,
motets, etc.) Members will also utilize advanced study
in sight-singing. All concerts and performances are
mandatory with additional outside performances.
Prerequisite: All members are selected through audition
with the director.

The fundamentals of musicianship approached through
visual and aural analysis. The student will study
terminology, scales, intervals, melodic, harmony and
rhythmic elements of music as well as composition
and analysis.
Prerequisite: Ability to read music is required.

This course is the study of musical styles through
periods of history. Through listening and discussion
of musical compositions, the student extends his/her
musical enjoyment. Previous musical experience is
not a prerequisite.

Wind ensemble / marching band is offered to advanced
woodwind, brass, and percussion instrumental
students. The marching band has a two-week mandatory
practice before the opening of school in August.
Marching band will continue until the conclusion of
the varsity football season at which time students will
begin wind ensemble literature. A short audition is
required for chair placement at the conclusion of the
football season. Private lessons are encourgaed.
Prerequisite: All members are selected through audition
with the directors.
Fundamentals of Music

This course covers the basic elements found in music.
It will combine ear training, sight singing, and written
assignments to bring students to a level to continue
with more advanced music theory concepts. Students
will learn to communicate with the written symbols
of the musical language, including: rhythm, meter,
tempo, melody, dynamics, expression markings, instrumentation
and simple harmony. This course will
enable students to read notes in all clefs. Students will
learn scales, intervals and triads, producing melodies
in correct notation by the end of the course.
