This selected string ensemble deals with advanced
string instrument techniques. Students will be exploring
and performing advanced literature (equivalent to
Class A on the Ohio Music Educators’ Contest lists).
Because of the demands of the repertoire, the student is
strongly advised to study with a private teacher. Musical,
historical, and theoretical concepts are discussedd
and applied appropriately to every piece of music.
Students are strongly encouraged to study privately
on their string instrument.
Prerequisite: Student must play a stringed instrument.

Freshmen Chorus is a training group in which students
will recieve vocal instruction and experience. This
course is a prerequisite for a more advanced vocal
group. Although the emphasis is on training, the Chorus
does have some opportunities for public performance.
Music of all styles and periods is included. All concerts
are mandatory.

Symphonic band / marching band is offered to woodwind,
brass, and percussion instrumentalists. The
marching band has a two-week mandatory practice
before the opening of school in August. Marching band
will continue until the conclusion of the varsity football
season at which time students will begin symphonic
band literature. A short audition is required for chair
placement at the conclusion of the football season.

A Cappella Choir

This select choral group is intended as the large group
performance organization. Members are chosen
according to ability, the needs of the choir in number,
and for the balancing of the various sections. Music of
all styles and periods is included from the Renaissance
to present day. All concerts and performances are
mandatory.
Prerequisite: All members are selected through audition
with the director.
Women’s Choir

Open To: juniors, seniors
Women’s Choir is a performing organization in which
the fundamental concepts of singing learned in the
Freshmen and A Cappella Choirs are continued and
expanded. Proper breathing, tone control, and vocal
projection are studied. Music of all styles and periods
is included, from the Renaissance to present day.
All concerts and performances, including additional
outside performances, are mandatory. All literature
is arranged for women’s voices.
Prerequisite: Must be Female. All members are
selected through audition with the director.
