Intercapital air distances are provided in terms <strong>of</strong> greater circle distances. These are<br />
distances that take into account the curvature <strong>of</strong> the earth.<br />

1. Revenue passengers are fare paying passengers.<br />
2. Number <strong>of</strong> international revenue passengers divided by number <strong>of</strong> available<br />
seats.<br />
3. Revenue passenger kilometres are calculated by multiplying the number <strong>of</strong><br />
revenue passengers travelling on each flight stage by the distance in kilometres<br />
between the airports. Modelled estimates <strong>of</strong> air passenger travel (Table 5.1) differ<br />
from survey results for domestic airline revenue passenger travel.<br />

5. Regular Public <strong>Transport</strong> (RPT) operations only. RPT is aircraft transport available<br />

Airline on time measures are provided in terms <strong>of</strong> on time departures (flights that<br />
depart within 15 minutes <strong>of</strong> the scheduled departure time), on time arrivals (flights<br />
that arrive within 15 minutes <strong>of</strong> the scheduled arrival time) <strong>and</strong> cancellations (flights<br />
cancelled or rescheduled within seven days <strong>of</strong> the scheduled departure time).<br />
6. Participating airlines are Jetstar, Macair, Qantas, QantasLink, <strong>Regional</strong> Express,<br />
Skywest, Tiger Airways <strong>and</strong> Virgin Blue.<br />
7. Series commenced November 2003. Jetstar commenced reporting from May 2004,<br />
