5.17 Incorrect Starting Position<br />
Assuming an incorrect starting position (see Illustration Nos. 11 and 13) can be<br />
a technical violation when, in the judgment of the referee, a wrestler assumes an<br />
incorrect starting position to:<br />
5.17.1 Gain a distinct advantage over the opponent; or<br />
5.17.2 Demonstrate obvious disregard for the referee’s instructions or the rules.<br />
Other incorrect starting positions shall be corrected by the referee by verbal<br />
communication with the wrestler(s). The sequence of penalties is inclusive with<br />
false starts.<br />
