Antiinflammatory activity<br />
The administration <strong>of</strong> the root extract inhibited the carragenan<br />
induced acute paw oedema <strong>and</strong> formalin induced chronic paw<br />
oedema in a dose dependent manner (Table 6). The animals treated<br />
with 70 per cent methonolic extract @ 250 mg/kg <strong>and</strong> 500 mg/kg<br />
showed 47.05 <strong>and</strong> 70.58% inhibition <strong>of</strong> carragenan induced acute<br />
inflammation. In the case <strong>of</strong> formalin induced chronic<br />
inflammation, 250 mg/kg <strong>and</strong> 500 mg/kg showed inhibition <strong>of</strong><br />
50.00 <strong>and</strong> 72.00%, respectively (Table 7).<br />
