flagged off Jala Mela, an<br />
Aqua-Sports festival<br />
organised by SPORTS<br />
and the Department of<br />
Tourism Development near<br />
Paradise Hut. Hon’ble<br />
Administrator also<br />
inaugurated a Water<br />
Sports Club at Paradise<br />
Hut.<br />

spectacular water sports<br />
activities which left the<br />
huge gathering along the<br />

National Voters Day Celebrated<br />

Voters Day was observed<br />

with a great deal of<br />
enthusiasm on 25 th<br />
<strong>January</strong> 2012. In the<br />
capital island Voters Day<br />
function was held at<br />
Secretariat Multipurpose<br />
Hall.<br />

a dedicated wharf for the<br />

Mangalore Port.<br />
Speaking to the<br />
press persons during his<br />
visit to Old Mangalore Port<br />
here on Thursday. MP said<br />
from time immemorial Old<br />
Mangalore has been a port<br />
for transportation for<br />
P a n c h a y a t ,<br />
Smt.U.P.Umaiban,<br />
Chairperson, Village<br />
Dweep Panchayat and<br />
other senior officers were<br />
also present on the<br />
occasion.<br />
Administration of<br />
a pledge by the Hon’ble<br />
Administrator and the<br />
distribution of EPICs to<br />
newly enrolled voters as<br />
well marked the occasion.<br />
While addressing the<br />
gathering, the hon’ble<br />
Administrator exhorted the<br />
youths to play their role in<br />
the democratic process of<br />
choosing the rulers of the<br />
country. He also said that<br />
voting is an important right<br />
that has been given by the<br />
constitution to every<br />
citizens of India. “The<br />
election standards of India<br />

connection with the<br />
celebration of the day were<br />
also felicitated. In the<br />

Marry won first prize and<br />
Master. Asif Iqbal.K and<br />
Kum. Sumaira.K won<br />
second and third place<br />
respectively. In college<br />

prize<br />

Mangalore Port<br />
essential commodities,<br />
items under the public<br />
distribution system, river<br />
sand and petroleum<br />
products, among others.<br />
He said the<br />
Administration of the Union<br />
Territory of <strong>Lakshadweep</strong><br />
has sent a daft proposal to<br />
the Karnataka Government<br />
to set up a dedicated wharf<br />
at Old Mangalore Port for<br />
the benefit of the<br />
L a k s h a d w e e p<br />
Administration.<br />
To a query on the<br />
cost of construction of the<br />
wharf projects, he said it<br />
was estimated at around<br />
Rs 44.5 crore. Sayeed said<br />
this amount would be<br />
cleared by both<br />
<strong>Lakshadweep</strong> and<br />
Karnataka. The amount<br />
given in the proposal is not<br />
exorbitant and should be<br />
agreeable to both the<br />
administrations, he said.<br />
The proposal suggests<br />
the establishment of a<br />
<strong>30</strong>0m long dedicated wharf<br />
for the <strong>Lakshadweep</strong><br />
Administration at Old<br />
Mangalore Port. Apart from<br />
anchoring ships, the wharf<br />
will also help in the<br />
embarkation and disembarkation<br />
of<br />
passengers, and loading<br />
and unloading of cargoes.<br />
The project would be a<br />
major boost for the people<br />
of <strong>Lakshadweep</strong> and<br />
Mangalore, he added.<br />

26 th <strong>January</strong> <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
The programme<br />
began with the Band<br />
Caution on the<br />
Administrator’s arrival. It<br />
was followed by National<br />
Anthem by the Police<br />
Band.<br />

hands with the invitees and<br />
exchanged pleasantries<br />
with them.<br />

of the 4 th District Panchayat<br />
was held in Panchayat<br />
Sadan on 23 rd <strong>January</strong><br />
<strong>2013</strong> and Shri.Ahamed<br />
Haji Thottathakara<br />
(Achada) was elected as<br />
the President cum Chief<br />
Cousellor, Shri.Yousuf<br />
Maidan and Shri.<br />
Barkathulla Nallala were<br />
elected as Vice President<br />
cum Counsellors.<br />

was held in the Kala<br />
The Administrator<br />
honoured two elderly<br />
citizens of Kavaratti Island<br />
namely Shri.Muthukoya<br />
Musliyar Ummarvanoda<br />
and Smt.Ayshomma Vadak<br />
Melachoda by draping<br />
shawls on their shoulders<br />
and presented cash<br />
awards.<br />
The invitees<br />
enjoyed the high tea with<br />
the Administrator relishing<br />
the delicious local recipes.<br />
The premises of<br />
the <strong>Lakshadweep</strong><br />
Government House stood<br />
in its pomp and glory and<br />
presented a spectacular<br />
view with multi-coloured<br />
illuminations reaching upto<br />
the top of the trees.<br />
