Kavaratti: As part of the Republic Day Celebrations 2013, Hon’ble Administrator and Member of Parliament jointly flagged off Jala Mela, an Aqua-Sports festival organised by SPORTS and the Department of Tourism Development near Paradise Hut. Hon’ble Administrator also inaugurated a Water Sports Club at Paradise Hut. The participants indulged in a series of spectacular water sports activities which left the huge gathering along the beach spell-bound. Water Sports Instructors, staffs Administrator, Shri. H. Rajesh Prasad inaugurating Water Sports Club at Paradise Hut. from SPORTS and Children performed various water sports activities like Yachting, Wind Surfing, Kayaking, Banana Boat, Para-Sailing, Bubble Making, Speed Boating, Scuba Diving, Water Scooter etc. However, an added item of this year Jala Mela was Bubble making by the students aged 8yrs and the amazing skills in Water Scooter by the Water Sports Instructors of Tourism. National Voters Day Celebrated Administrator, Shri.H.Rajesh Prasad administering oath of National Voters Day-2013 to the participants. Kavaratti: In keeping with its objective of encouraging young citizens to join the list of voters, National Voters Day was observed in Lakshadweep islands with a great deal of enthusiasm on 25 th January 2012. Speaking to the press persons during his visit to Old Mangalore Port here on Thursday. MP said from time immemorial Old Mangalore has been a port for transportation for P a n c h a y a t , Smt.U.P.Umaiban, Chairperson, Village Dweep Panchayat and other senior officers were also present on the occasion. Administration of a pledge by the Hon’ble Administrator and the distribution of EPICs to newly enrolled voters as well marked the occasion. While addressing the gathering, the hon’ble Administrator exhorted the youths to play their role in the democratic process of choosing the rulers of the country. He also said that voting is an important right that has been given by the constitution to every citizens of India. “The election standards of India Head of the departments and other Senior officers of the Administration repeating the oath. cannot be matched by any other countries in the world.” He added. In his keynote address Dr.N.Vasantha Kumar, Collector and D e v e l o p m e n t Commissioner, Chief Electoral Officer exhorted the younger generation for deep participation in democratic processes. He also said that participation of youths and women in election process of the country is comparatively very less. At the function students who have won prizes in essay competitions conducted in connection with the celebration of the day were also felicitated. In the school level essay competition Kum.Riya Marry won first prize and Master. Asif Iqbal.K and Kum. Sumaira.K won second and third place respectively. In college level Shri.Shaheerul Afthab.PP bagged first prize and Shri.Harshad.Khan.R.V and Shri.Sajeed Jamal C.G won 2 nd and 3 rd place respectively. He said the Administration of the Union Territory of Lakshadweep has sent a daft proposal to the Karnataka Government to set up a dedicated wharf at Old Mangalore Port for the benefit of the L a k s h a d w e e p Administration. To a query on the cost of construction of the wharf projects, he said it was estimated at around Rs 44.5 crore. Sayeed said this amount would be cleared by both Lakshadweep and Karnataka. The amount given in the proposal is not exorbitant and should be agreeable to both the administrations, he said. The proposal suggests the establishment of a 300m long dedicated wharf for the Lakshadweep Administration at Old Mangalore Port. Apart from anchoring ships, the wharf will also help in the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers, and loading and unloading of cargoes. The project would be a major boost for the people of Lakshadweep and Mangalore, he added. National Anthem in 'At Home': Administrator, CDC,MD, SP and ADM can be seen. Kavaratti: Hon’ble Administrator invited all the Panchayat functionaries, guests from outside, political and social leaders and the senior officers of the Administration to an ‘At Home’ programme in the Lakshadweep Government House in the evening of 26 th January 2013. The programme began with the Band Caution on the Administrator’s arrival. It was followed by National Anthem by the Police Band. Hon’ble Administrator then shook hands with the invitees and exchanged pleasantries with them. Kavaratti: The 1 st meeting of the 4 th District Panchayat was held in Panchayat Sadan on 23 rd January 2013 and Shri.Ahamed Haji Thottathakara (Achada) was elected as the President cum Chief Cousellor, Shri.Yousuf Maidan and Shri. Barkathulla Nallala were elected as Vice President cum Counsellors. The oath taking ceremony by the members of the District Panchayat was held in the Kala The Administrator honoured two elderly citizens of Kavaratti Island namely Shri.Muthukoya Musliyar Ummarvanoda and Smt.Ayshomma Vadak Melachoda by draping shawls on their shoulders and presented cash awards. The invitees enjoyed the high tea with the Administrator relishing the delicious local recipes.
