Revision to DOE Order 200.1A<br />

The revision to DOE Order 200.1A, Information Technology Management, is in the final stages<br />

<strong>of</strong> approval to address new and changing IT management issues. The revised Order will put in<br />

place consistent and basic IT management functions/practices to ensure the IT that is acquired<br />

meets missions requirements at lowest practical costs. The revision should ultimately increase<br />

savings and enhance department productivity by establishing requirements for implementing IT<br />

management processes and outlining policies and procedures for effectively managing IT<br />

investments.<br />

Expansion <strong>of</strong> EITS for all DOE Federal Employees<br />

EITS provides a standards-based hardware and s<strong>of</strong>tware, maintenance and support end-user<br />

computing environment. Customer-selected, tiered service levels are available that provide a<br />

dependable and predictable computer end-user environment. Approved and supported nonstandard<br />

and custom s<strong>of</strong>tware and configuration options are available (at an additional cost).<br />

The majority <strong>of</strong> HQ program and staff <strong>of</strong>fices are now serviced by EITS (approximately 5,000<br />

HQ customers) and migration to the Field is currently underway.<br />

Critical Events and Action Items<br />

Over the next year the OCIO plans to accomplish several critical initiatives in support <strong>of</strong> the<br />

missions and functions <strong>of</strong> the organization.<br />

INFORMATION MANAGEMENT CONFERENCE<br />

In support <strong>of</strong> workforce improvement goals, the OCIO will host an Information Management<br />

Conference targeted at DOE federal and contractor staff with responsibility for information<br />

resources, IT project management, enterprise architecture, information security, records<br />

management, spectrum management, and geospatial information science.<br />

The conference will be a key forum for collaboration, sharing best practices, and training across<br />

the DOE complex, and will provide a venue for staff from across the complex to come together<br />

to discuss issues and opportunities related to IT acquisition, implementation, operation,<br />

maintenance, and management.
