After the FOR-NEXT loops are complete, the last command is the GOTO MAIN command line. It loops the program back up to the “main” label so it can run over and over again. To make sure the program does not get lost, the END command is added at the bottom. If this command is ever encountered, the program will stop running until the reset switch is pressed or power is removed and reconnected. HARDWARE For the hardware, I cheated and used my Ultimate OEM module (Figure 5). This module can be easily switched from an Atom module to a PICBasic module with a chip change. It brings all the PIC pins out to the main header, so to reproduce this with a bare PIC just requires a resonator, MCLR pull-up resistor, 5V, and ground. Then wire the LEDs to PortC. The block schematic is shown in Figure 4 and the project assembled in Figure 5. CONCLUSION No series of articles can be everything to everybody, and Nuts & Volts was kind enough to give me this opportunity to reach the beginners out there. If you have any questions, comments, or complaints, just email me at chuck@elproducts.com. It’s your feedback that lets me know what direction to take. If you find a really cool PIC product, let me know about it. It may lead to more interesting articles in the future. Also, send me your project pictures. Other readers may like to see them.
