• <strong>The</strong> <strong>Johnson</strong> <strong>School</strong> was recognized as a CFA Program<br />

Partner by the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Institute.<br />

<strong>The</strong> CFA program sets a standard for developing the<br />

skills, standards, competence, and integrity of fi nancial<br />

analysts, portfolio managers, investment advisers, and<br />

other investment professionals worldwide.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> Cornell-Queen’s Executive MBA program received<br />

approval to expand into Texas and Georgia, and has been<br />

recruiting in Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston for the Class of<br />

2010.<br />

• <strong>The</strong> <strong>Johnson</strong> <strong>School</strong> was selected to host the Net<br />

Impact International Conference, to be held on Cornell’s<br />

campus in fall 2009. <strong>The</strong> conference will bring together<br />

approximately 2,000 students, professionals, and thought<br />

leaders from around the world to discuss the latest ideas<br />

and opportunities in business and sustainability.<br />

Faculty Highlights<br />

• Joe Thomas, the Nicholas H. Noyes Professor of<br />

Manufacturing and professor of operations management,<br />

was named Ann and Elmer Lindseth Dean of the <strong>Johnson</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong> on March 27, 2008, having served with great<br />

success as interim dean since June 2007.<br />

• Mark Nelson, Eleanora and George Landew Professor of<br />

Management and professor of accounting, was named<br />

the <strong>Johnson</strong> <strong>School</strong>’s associate dean for Academic Affairs,<br />

a position previously held by <strong>Johnson</strong> <strong>School</strong> Dean Joe<br />

Thomas.<br />

• Dana Radcliffe was appointed Day Family Senior Lecturer<br />

in Business Ethics, a position created in September 2007<br />

by the establishment of the Day Family Senior Lecturer<br />

in Business Ethics Discretionary Fund, an endowed fund<br />

that supports business ethics programs at the <strong>Johnson</strong><br />

<strong>School</strong> and at Cornell Law <strong>School</strong>. <strong>The</strong> fund is made<br />

possible by the generous donation of the Dr. Harry M.<br />

Day Charitable Foundation. Radcliffe has been teaching<br />

classes in business ethics, corporate responsibility, and<br />

leadership at the <strong>Johnson</strong> <strong>School</strong> since 2000 and has<br />

been responsible for leading the school’s ethics-related<br />

events and initiatives.<br />

• Maureen O’Hara, Robert W. Purcell Professor of<br />

Management and professor of fi nance, was appointed<br />

chairman of the board at Investment Technology Group,<br />

Inc., a specialized agency brokerage and technology fi rm<br />

that partners with clients globally to provide innovative<br />

solutions spanning the entire investment process.<br />

O’Hara has been a director at Investment Technology<br />

Group since January 2003 and lead director since January<br />

2005.<br />

• Elizabeth Mannix, Ann Whitney Olin Professor of<br />

Management, was named recipient of the 2007-08<br />

Faculty Research Award. Mannix also serves as the Robert<br />

S. Harrison Director of Cornell’s Institute for the Social<br />

Sciences and vice provost for equity and inclusion. In<br />

her research, Mannix analyzes topics such as diversity<br />

in organizations and teams, power and alliances,<br />

negotiation and conflict, and organizational change and<br />

renewal.<br />

• Yaniv Grinstein, assistant professor of fi nance, was<br />

awarded the Best Paper Prize for the most signifi cant<br />

paper published in the Journal of Financial Intermediation<br />

in 2006 for his paper, “<strong>The</strong> Disciplinary Role of Debt and<br />

Equity Contracts: <strong>The</strong>ory and Tests.”<br />

• Sachin Gupta, Henrietta <strong>Johnson</strong> Louis Professor of<br />

Management and professor of marketing, received the<br />

2008 O’Dell Award from the Journal of Marketing Research<br />

for his paper, “Is 75 percent of the Sales Promotion Bump<br />

Due to Brand Switching? No, Only 33 percent Is,” coauthored<br />

by Harald J. van Heerde and Dick R. Wittink.<br />

Gupta also won best paper for a Cornell Hospitality<br />

Quarterly article, “Guest Satisfaction and Restaurant<br />

Performance,” co-authored by Edward McLaughlin and<br />

Miguel Gomez.<br />

• Michael Waldman, the Charles H. Dyson Professor of<br />

Management and professor of economics, received<br />

the Robert F. Lanzillotti Prize for Best Paper in Antitrust<br />

Economics for, “Why Tie a Product Consumers do not<br />

Use?”<br />
