forensic laboratories in 22 <str<strong>on</strong>g>CEWG</str<strong>on</strong>g> areas in the<br />

first half of 2008 reporting period. Table 9 shows<br />

the numbers and percentages of drug items c<strong>on</strong>taining<br />

alprazolam, cl<strong>on</strong>azepam, and diazepam in<br />

each of the reporting <str<strong>on</strong>g>CEWG</str<strong>on</strong>g> areas.<br />

Alprazolam. In the 22 <str<strong>on</strong>g>CEWG</str<strong>on</strong>g> areas for<br />

which NFLIS data were reported for the first half<br />

of 2008, the highest percentages of alprazolam<br />

drug items identified were in Texas (4.2 percent),<br />

followed by Atlanta (3.7 percent), and Philadelphia<br />

(2.9 percent). Alprazolam drug items were<br />

reported at 1.0–1.9 percent in Bost<strong>on</strong>, St. Louis,<br />

Miami, New York City, and Detroit, and at less<br />

than 1 percent in the remaining 14 reporting<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>CEWG</str<strong>on</strong>g> areas (table 9).<br />

In secti<strong>on</strong> II, table 1, which shows the rankings<br />

of the most frequently reported drugs in<br />

NFLIS for the first half of 2008 data, alprazolam<br />

ranked fourth in frequency am<strong>on</strong>g the top 10<br />

drug items identified in four <str<strong>on</strong>g>CEWG</str<strong>on</strong>g> areas: Miami/<br />

Dade County, Atlanta, New York City, and Texas.<br />

It ranked fifth in Philadelphia.<br />

Cl<strong>on</strong>azepam. <strong>Drug</strong> items c<strong>on</strong>taining cl<strong>on</strong>azepam<br />

accounted for 1.7 percent of all drug items<br />

in Bost<strong>on</strong>. Its presence was minimal in the 21<br />

other <str<strong>on</strong>g>CEWG</str<strong>on</strong>g> areas (table 9). In Bost<strong>on</strong>, cl<strong>on</strong>azepam<br />

figured as the 6th most frequently identified<br />

drug in forensic laboratories in the first half<br />

of 2008; 8th in Baltimore City; 9th in Maryland,<br />

Philadelphia, and Texas; and 10th in New York<br />

City, Cincinnati, and Seattle (secti<strong>on</strong> II, table 1).<br />

Diazepam. <strong>Drug</strong> items c<strong>on</strong>taining diazepam<br />

accounted for less than 1 percent of all drug items<br />

in each of the 22 <str<strong>on</strong>g>CEWG</str<strong>on</strong>g> areas (table 9). However,<br />

diazepam ranked 7th in H<strong>on</strong>olulu, 9th in Cincinnati<br />

and San Diego, and 10th in San Francisco<br />

am<strong>on</strong>g drug items identified in NFLIS forensic<br />

laboratories in the first half of 2008 (secti<strong>on</strong> II,<br />

table 1).<br />
