GUCA Awards Scholarships to Construction Students

Fishing Fun in Florida
The fish on the West Coast of
Florida needed to be wary of NUCA
anglers this fall. Both NUCA of North
Florida and NUCA of Southwest
Florida hosted annual fishing
tournaments. NUCA of Southwest
Florida hosted its event Sept. 16-
18 at ‘Tween Waters Inn on Captiva
Island. It was superbly organized by
new Fishing Tournament Chairman,
Bob Russell and the tournament
committee, Aaron Hunt Branch,
Brett Eckenrode, John Wirka and
Tim Wise.
NUCA of North Florida honored
Craig Carp, a retired Marine who
served three tours in Iraq, at its
annual fishing tournament on Oct.
11 in Jacksonville, Fla. Tony Zebouni
of Regan Zebouni P.A. devised the
idea of sponsoring a boat and asking
the Wounded Warrior Project to
invite a soldier to join the event. The
organization sold $50 raffle tickets
The GUCA Education Committee awarded $2,000 in
scholarships to three construction management students
studying in Georgia at its Fall Quarterly Meeting and
Trade Show in Atlanta on Oct. 27. Junior and senior level
students attending four-year colleges and majoring in
construction or engineering were eligible to apply. Since
1995, the association has awarded more than $143,000 in
scholarships.
“GUCA scholarship opportunities help open the door
to students to complete their educational goals and
hopefully gear their construction-related education to
the much-needed utility construction industry,” said
Scott Brumbelow, GUCA Assistant Executive Director.
This year’s recipients were Allen Lenard Carter, a senior
majoring in construction management at Southern
Polytechnic State University, and Christopher Prince and
Julia Brooke West, both seniors majoring in construction
and management at Georgia Southern University (GSU).

Lauren Atwell and his son L.T. were
the lucky winners. Thanks to Regan
Zebouni for its generous donation
and to Hampton Inn and Suites on
South Boulevard for donating Craig’s
hotel stay. And our special thanks to
Craig for his service to our country.
NUCA of North Florida will be
making a donation in his honor to the
Wounded Warrior Project.
