4.2.5.2 Objectives<br />

i. The aim <strong>of</strong> the Young <strong>Planners</strong> Committee is to promote, support and represent young planners at a<br />

national level via MIP or other pr<strong>of</strong>essional organizations. The objectives and actions <strong>of</strong> the group over<br />

the coming year will assist in this process and make the operations <strong>of</strong> the group more transparent and<br />

also to ensure smooth transition <strong>of</strong> representatives and convenors via succession planning.<br />

ii.<br />

To recognized that the needs <strong>of</strong> those new to the planning pr<strong>of</strong>ession were different to those <strong>of</strong> the more<br />

experienced members<br />

iii. To promote the enhancement <strong>of</strong> our pr<strong>of</strong>essional services and capacity building to become competitive<br />

locally and globally.<br />

iv. To educate the future town planners (student/ graduate members <strong>of</strong> MIP) in preparing for pr<strong>of</strong>essional<br />

practice and the building industry;<br />

v. To facilitate, represent and contribute to issues <strong>of</strong> importance to Young <strong>Planners</strong>.<br />

vi. T o support and guide Young Planner groups and activities.<br />

vii. To develop and maintain communication between Young <strong>Planners</strong> at all levels.<br />

viii. To encourage Young <strong>Planners</strong> and students involvement in and membership <strong>of</strong> MIP.<br />

ix. To promote planning as a career/ pr<strong>of</strong>ession to potential students and increase awareness <strong>of</strong> planning<br />

within the broader community.<br />

x. To assist Young <strong>Planners</strong> in gaining experience and employment<br />

xi. To efficiently and effectively administer the Young <strong>Planners</strong> group.<br />

4.2.5.3 Committee Activities<br />

a.) Mt Kinabalu Hiking Adventure<br />

The event was successfully organized in collaboration with Promotion, Public Relation & Programme Committee.<br />

from 4 th - 8 th September <strong>2012</strong>. This adventure was participated by 18 members with 2 reporters from Utusan<br />

Malaysia newspaper. The team was successfully raised MIP Flags at Low’s Peak, Mount Kinabalu on the dawn <strong>of</strong><br />

6 th September <strong>2012</strong>. The article was published in Utusan Malaysia newspaper on 10 th September <strong>2012</strong>.<br />
