<strong>Annual</strong> <strong>Report</strong> <strong>2012</strong>/<strong>2013</strong><br />
Make the Difference’. MIP has been invited as partners for the conference together with other<br />
pr<strong>of</strong>essional institutes (PAM, ILAM, RISM, ASM, etc.). The conference was held on 14 th - 16 th June <strong>2012</strong><br />
at Istana Hotel, KL. Approximately, 500 participants attended the conference which consists <strong>of</strong><br />
representative from government servants, resident associations, students, business communities and<br />
members from all the pr<strong>of</strong>essional institutes.<br />
The objectives <strong>of</strong> the conference are to raise the image <strong>of</strong> women in science, engineering and technology,<br />
make women aware and strive to their full pr<strong>of</strong>essional potential, acknowledge the contribution <strong>of</strong> women<br />
to the nation building, improve women capabilities and contemplate the balance between work, family and<br />
social.<br />
Pn. Khairiah Talha from MIP has presented a paper on ‘Low Carbon Communities – Women as Agent <strong>of</strong><br />
Change’ where it discussed on low carbon communities (definition and the elements) and also highlighted<br />
on the roles <strong>of</strong> women in the past and present have made in successfully driving changes in the mind sets<br />
<strong>of</strong> the community in caring for the environment they live in.<br />
c. One Way Street Workshop, Petaling Jaya<br />
This workshop was held purposely for the Proposed One Way Street System at Jalan Utara, Jalan Barat<br />
and Part <strong>of</strong> Jalan Sultan, Section 52, Petaling Jaya. It was held on 18 th October <strong>2012</strong> at the Banquet Hall,<br />
Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Headquarters. It was a one day workshop which <strong>of</strong>ficiated by the<br />
Deputy Mayor, Tuan Puasa bin Md Taib. A total <strong>of</strong> approximately hundred and twenty-two participants<br />
from various backgrounds attended the workshop.<br />
The workshop was designed and facilitated by Peter Cuming from Sustainable Futures Australia (SFA)<br />
and MIP as co-facilitator and MBPJ providing support services including moderating grouping sessions. All<br />
findings <strong>of</strong> the workshop has been submitted to MBPJ and published on The Star newspaper on 22 nd<br />
January <strong>2013</strong>.<br />
d. Low Carbon Cities Framework (LCCF) – Workshop, Training and Conference<br />
As the developer <strong>of</strong> LCCF, MIP continuously and actively involved in various workshops, trainings and<br />
paper presentations to government servants, resident associations, students, business communities and<br />
members from other pr<strong>of</strong>essional institutes. Two (2) LCCF Advanced Training have been conducted in<br />
<strong>2012</strong> – one in Bukit Tinggi, Pahang and another one in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan. Several workshops<br />
also have been conducted for Sepang Municipal Council (MP Sepang), Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ)<br />
and Miri City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Miri). Other than that, LCCF has been presented in many<br />
conferences where the recent one was for ‘Sustainable Cities UTM – Massachusetts <strong>Institute</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />
Technology (MIT)’.<br />
