Pollution Prevention Program<br />
In Panay Elementary School, a “No<br />
Smoking” policy is fully implemented<br />
inside <strong>and</strong> outside the school campus.<br />
Trees, ornamentals <strong>and</strong> vegetables<br />
are planted to maintain the balance in<br />
nature in providing fresh air to every<br />
individual. Burning of dried leaves<br />
<strong>and</strong> plastic cellophanes are strictly<br />
prohibited.<br />
Water Conservation Program<br />
It’s the policy of the School that each pupil <strong>and</strong> teacher is<br />
accountable to their assigned parts. <strong>The</strong> school is also<br />
conserving energy through rehabilitating the old wirings <strong>and</strong><br />
conserving water by checking the leakages <strong>and</strong> using cups <strong>and</strong><br />
containers.<br />
Proper waste segregation, collection <strong>and</strong> disposal at 7:30 A.M<br />
habit in the Materials Recovery Facility. Every graduate has to<br />
plant five to ten trees as part of greening the school <strong>and</strong><br />
community program. Banana leaves <strong>and</strong> cups will be used in<br />
selling <strong>and</strong> buying foods in the canteen. Smoking is strictly<br />
prohibited inside the school premises. Cut trees should be<br />
replaced. Burning of any kinds of waste is prohibited. Waste<br />
paper <strong>and</strong> other recyclable materials should be recycled.<br />
Biodegradable waste should be placed in the composting bins<br />
<strong>and</strong> vermiculture <strong>for</strong> organic fertilizer.<br />
Panay Elementary School is<br />
implementing a Program on Water<br />
Conservation that requires every pupil,<br />
teacher <strong>and</strong> individual that will enter<br />
<strong>and</strong> use the school’s water facility to<br />
observe water conservation with the<br />
following policies: 1) every classroom<br />
is given water jug <strong>for</strong> safe drinking<br />
water; 2) the use of glasses/cups in<br />
tooth brushing 3) all faucets should be<br />
closed right after use; 4) check/close all<br />
faucets be<strong>for</strong>e going home in the<br />
afternoon; <strong>and</strong> 5) immediate<br />
replacement <strong>and</strong> repair of water pipe<br />
leakages.<br />
<strong>The</strong> integration of ecological/environmental awareness of the different competencies<br />
in Science, HEKASI/Sibika at Kultura, EPP <strong>and</strong> Character Education is very evident<br />
as it is found in teachers’ lesson plans. In some subjects like English, Math <strong>and</strong><br />
Filipino, the selection used with related environmental topics are used as<br />
spring board in the teaching process.<br />
<strong>The</strong> school initiated different environmental protection, conservation<br />
<strong>and</strong> ecological solid waste management programs. For the<br />
past four years of endeavor, it has garnered regional awards<br />
such as, First Place in Moringa Implementer, First Place in Gulayan<br />
sa Paaralan, First Place in <strong>Eco</strong>logical Solid Waste Management, <strong>and</strong><br />
presently Regional Winner on the <strong>National</strong> <strong>Search</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Sustainable</strong><br />
<strong>and</strong> <strong>Eco</strong>-<strong>Friendly</strong> School.
