Pollution Prevention Program
In Panay Elementary School, a “No
Smoking” policy is fully implemented
inside and outside the school campus.
Trees, ornamentals and vegetables
are planted to maintain the balance in
nature in providing fresh air to every
individual. Burning of dried leaves
and plastic cellophanes are strictly
prohibited.
Water Conservation Program
It’s the policy of the School that each pupil and teacher is
accountable to their assigned parts. The school is also
conserving energy through rehabilitating the old wirings and
conserving water by checking the leakages and using cups and
containers.
Proper waste segregation, collection and disposal at 7:30 A.M
habit in the Materials Recovery Facility. Every graduate has to
plant five to ten trees as part of greening the school and
community program. Banana leaves and cups will be used in
selling and buying foods in the canteen. Smoking is strictly
prohibited inside the school premises. Cut trees should be
replaced. Burning of any kinds of waste is prohibited. Waste
paper and other recyclable materials should be recycled.
Biodegradable waste should be placed in the composting bins
and vermiculture for organic fertilizer.
Panay Elementary School is
implementing a Program on Water
Conservation that requires every pupil,
teacher and individual that will enter
and use the school’s water facility to
observe water conservation with the
following policies: 1) every classroom
is given water jug for safe drinking
water; 2) the use of glasses/cups in
tooth brushing 3) all faucets should be
closed right after use; 4) check/close all
faucets before going home in the
afternoon; and 5) immediate
replacement and repair of water pipe
leakages.
The integration of ecological/environmental awareness of the different competencies
in Science, HEKASI/Sibika at Kultura, EPP and Character Education is very evident
as it is found in teachers’ lesson plans. In some subjects like English, Math and
Filipino, the selection used with related environmental topics are used as
spring board in the teaching process.
The school initiated different environmental protection, conservation
and ecological solid waste management programs. For the
past four years of endeavor, it has garnered regional awards
such as, First Place in Moringa Implementer, First Place in Gulayan
sa Paaralan, First Place in Ecological Solid Waste Management, and
presently Regional Winner on the National Search for Sustainable
and Eco-Friendly School.
