JULIO LEDESMA
NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL
San Carlos City, Negros Occidental
Western Visayas (Region 6)
Waste Management Program
The Julio Ledesma National High School envisions an
eco-friendly school that protects and serves the environment
through the implementation of school policies and application
of school curriculum that involves environmental awareness
and preservation. This encourages both the faculty and
student body to be more aware of the environmental
conditions and how their cooperation to the said program can
significantly improve the cleanliness of the surrounding and
even to their own homes. The students become eco-warriors
who act as protectors of the environment.
Interfusing academic merit and ecological management at the
same time is never easy. It entails a lot of patience, extra effort,
expertise and even a little or more share of time. Yet the JLNHS
family never sees it adversely. Instead, it is taken as a simple
Garbage bins were required in every
classroom in compliance to R.A. 9003.
Segregation of bio and nonbiodegradable
wastes was encouraged
to promote an eco-friendly
environment. Students all show their
concern for the environment by
practicing one of the school’s policies,
“Basura ko, Dala ko”.
The Science Department of JLNHS also
promotes “Vermi-culture/
Vermi-composting”. It started two
years ago with the African Nightcrawler
(Eudrilus eugeniae). The Supreme
Student Government also constructed
worm bins, as their project, beside the
MRF. African Nightcrawler is still being
cultured but another type of worm, the
native earthworm, inhabits the bins.
The school also holds a Recyclable
Waste Fair where students collected
and sold recyclables materials nad
turned their trash into cash.
challenge to continue giving quality education to our learners while inculcating in them the love
and concern for the environment.
In JLNSHS’ journey towards attaining an eco-friendly school, the school
continues optimizing environmental concern and pursue schemes that surely
meet the demands of nature.
The annual tree planting, MRF, vermi-culture and vermi-composting,
coastal clean-up, proper waste management and selling of recyclable
waste materials are just some of the programs and activities
that links them closer to our environment.
