LOYOLA SCHOOLS
Loyola Heights, Quezon City 1101
National Capital Region (NCR)
Waste Management Program
As much as possible, the generation of
waste is avoided through
minimizing the use of disposable
packaging and encouraging community
members to bring their own
containers. This is augmented by
segregation at source and waste
diversion to the school’s vermicomposting
and Materials Recovery
Facilities.
The Loyola Schools’ (LS) commitment to sustainability is rooted
in its Vision and Mission statement: “The Ateneo LS is a Filipino,
Catholic, and Jesuit center of excellence for higher learning
… a community that transforms society through its research
and creative work, its leadership in service to others and the
environment, and its formation of persons-for-others.” It is also
expressed in the LS Environment Policy: “The Ateneo de Manila
University LS seeks to protect the environment through
scholarly work on the environment, awareness of and discourse
on environmental issues, and the lifestyle of the community.”
The LS’s path to sustainability is expressed in three major areas:
maximizing resource conservation, minimizing waste
generation and prioritizing environmental education
(inculcating environmental values in our students, faculty and
staff through advocacy campaigns, trainings, curriculum
integration).
Water Conservation Program
To minimize water consumption,
investments were made in drip
irrigation systems and rainwater
collection and reuse. Effluent from
the different wastewater treatment
systems is also reused for irrigation of
gardens and lawns.
Pollution Prevention Program
The Loyola Schools has pollution
prevention projects such as using
KNOxOUT TM paint to reduce air
pollution within the campus,
investigating the use of electric vehicles
to reduce emissions from
The efforts of the LS have been recognized both locally and internationally.
