Th e Malovščevo Farm which lies in the village of Vitovlje surrounded by vineyards
and forest, was the fi rst open farm in the Goriška region and has long been famous
for its homely welcome. A visit to the farm is a wonderful gastronomic experience
that will tantalise your taste buds with the specialities of the Vipava area, marvellously
complemented by a fi ne selection of wines. Specialities include home-cured ham
dried in the Bora, the wind that blows across the Karst, salami, home-made bread,
minestrone, barley soup, genuine Vipava jota with sausage and ribs, omelettes,
gnocchi, bleki, goulash, polenta with ham, and side dishes and vegetables typical of
this region. Th ose with a sweet tooth can try apple, plum and peach strudels, cheese
strudel and other desserts. Activities for guests include guided tours of the wine
cellar with wine-tastings, grape-picking and the selection of the Queen of the Grape
Harvest, St Martin's Day celebrations and, on Saturdays, country evenings with music
and dancing. Visitors can also set off to visit the church on a solitary hill above the
village of Vitovlje, or walk the Vitovlje Trail. Also interesting are walks down country
lanes, through vineyards and over fi elds, to a beautiful lake called Vogršček.
Th e Mladovan Estate dates from 1906. Since 2003 it has off ered accommodation
in its own campsite or in holiday chalets. Th e farm was the fi rst in Slovenia
to open a campsite as a registered complementary activity. Access to the
Mladovan Estate is from the regional Nova Gorica–Ajdovščina road in the
village of Ozeljan (Vogrsko motorway exit). It is even possible to arrive at the
Mladovan Estate by paraglider or hang-glider, since we are the only farm in
Slovenia to have its own paraglider landing strip. You can taste and buy our
own wines, cured meat products and various home-made liqueurs. Th e location
of the Estate is ideal for an active holiday since we are just half an hour from
the coast, half an hour from Postojna Cave, the Škocjan Caves and Lipica, an
hour from the Alps and an hour and a half from Venice. Th e farm is an ideal
place for picnics and an excellent starting point for cycling tours (bicycles are
available to hire), hiking, seeing the sights of the Vipava Valley wine region and
a visit to the bridge with the largest stone arch in the world at Solkan.
At the very western edge of Goriška Brda right on the Italian border in the little
village of Breg pri Golem Brdu stands the Breg Tourist Farm. Here guests can
enjoy an environment that the bustle of civilization has not reached. A typical
farmhouse is available for guests; the lower part contains a smaller room with a
fi replace, while the upper part has a large room with a glassed terrace and a fi ne
view of the Brda landscape.
Toč with pršut (prosciutto) and white polenta, frtalja (an omelet rich with
herbs) served according to an old Brda custom, goulash with white polenta,
markandele, frika, njoki, potato cake—all these are off ered from the long list
of Brda delicacies, but of course a wide range of other (Brda and Friuli-Venezia
Giulia) dishes are on the menu. And wine from their own cellar, naturally.
At the neighbours you can learn the secrets of shaping pottery, and the Brda
region and the entire Goriška region are yours to explore. Th e farm has received
the national “Lipa” award for quality.
open to guests:
In eastern Goriška Brda in the village of Snežatno, guests are welcomed by a
monument to ancient Brda architecture: the Štekar homestead, which according
to church records was built around 1665.
Th e restored buildings overlook the vineyards and cherry orchards in the
surroundings and attract guests for whom the hostess prepares selected Brda
dishes ranging from Friuli-Venezia Giulia’s frtalja (an omelet rich with herbs)
to Brda’s mineštra (a thick soup) and dishes in which you can taste the spices
and vegetables of the season. Roman Štekar looks after the vineyards and the
wine cellar where his top quality bottled wines are maturing (Rumena Rebula,
Cabernet, Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot).
Goriška Brda with its attractions is inviting in itself, particularly when the
cherries and grapes are ripe, and the neighbouring areas are also full of interest.
Guests can try their luck at Nova Gorica’s casinos and drive to visit Lokve, Sveta
Gora, Štanjel, Kobarid, or even Venice.
