1.6.6 The Digital Ink & Pa<strong>in</strong>t Pacts with Manila-Based Imag<strong>in</strong>eAsia Studio Don Spielvogel, President of VirtualMagic <strong>An</strong>imation, Inc., and Jeffrey Harrison, Chairman of the Board for Global <strong>An</strong>imation Hold<strong>in</strong>gs which is the umbrella organization of Imag<strong>in</strong>eAsia, announced the formation of VirtualMagic ASIA, a new digital <strong>in</strong>k, pa<strong>in</strong>t and composit<strong>in</strong>g service <strong>in</strong> the Philipp<strong>in</strong>es that will operate as a subsidiary for VirtualMagic <strong>An</strong>imation, Inc. VirtualMagic ASIA is a corporate venture between two animation and digital services, VirtualMagic <strong>An</strong>imation, Inc. and Imag<strong>in</strong>eAsia Studio, of Manila. VirtualMagic <strong>An</strong>imation is a leader and pioneer <strong>in</strong> digital <strong>in</strong>k & pa<strong>in</strong>t among just a handful of similar service-based providers. The company was formed <strong>in</strong> 1992 orig<strong>in</strong>ally as US<strong>An</strong>imation to help develop the US<strong>An</strong>imation System, currently considered by animation professionals to be the software of choice for 2D digital <strong>in</strong>k & pa<strong>in</strong>t. By sett<strong>in</strong>g up digital <strong>in</strong>k & pa<strong>in</strong>t services at the Imag<strong>in</strong>eAsia Studio facility, a complete digital animation service <strong>in</strong> the Philipp<strong>in</strong>es, the company can provide a variety of production solutions to the digital <strong>in</strong>k & pa<strong>in</strong>t process. It can offer clients the cost efficiencies of work<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Asia, with experienced Western project management and can provide the f<strong>in</strong>al composit<strong>in</strong>g to be performed <strong>in</strong> its North Hollywood headquarters by its technical directors. VirtualMagic <strong>An</strong>imation is a multi-platform, multi-software service provider. As creators of the US<strong>An</strong>imation software, VirtualMagic <strong>An</strong>imation, a unique stand alone creative service, now uses a complete tool box rang<strong>in</strong>g from Softimage Toonz, Media PEGS to Photoshop, After Effects and other software. Modeled after such popular fan-cons as Japan’s annual Japan Fantasy Convention (JaFCon) or Italy’s Lucca Comics <strong>An</strong>teprima, <strong>An</strong>imExplosion is geared towards establish<strong>in</strong>g last<strong>in</strong>g cultural contact between the Philipp<strong>in</strong>es and Japan <strong>in</strong> a most unconventional manner: the <strong>in</strong>teraction between manga and anime artists and their ador<strong>in</strong>g Philipp<strong>in</strong>e audience. Putt<strong>in</strong>g up a fan convention at this po<strong>in</strong>t <strong>in</strong> time proves timely as the local <strong>in</strong>dustry can give Filip<strong>in</strong>o anime fans what they have craved for a very long time: the chance to f<strong>in</strong>ally meet and thank the creators of their favorite shows and comics and to f<strong>in</strong>ally be able to understand and appreciate the process that goes beh<strong>in</strong>d the creation of each comic anthology, television series, and animated film.
