Court, and the Laconia Family Division. The Sheriff is also responsible for custody<br />

and control of prisoners appearing at the Laconia District Court. The latter<br />

duties are performed with the cooperation of Sheriff’s Deputies, Court Security<br />

Officers, and the Bailiffs of the Administrative Office of the Courts. <strong>2009</strong> saw<br />

the re-opening of the remodeled Laconia Court, which now houses both District<br />

Court and the Family Division.<br />

COMMUNICATIONS<br />

The communications center provides services for the police departments of nine<br />

towns in <strong>Belknap</strong> <strong>County</strong>. Communications services are also provided to the<br />

Northfield Police Department on a contractual basis. In addition to the local<br />

towns, the communications center receives telephone calls and provides dispatch<br />

services for the local Fish and Game Officers, Liquor Investigators, Medical Examiners,<br />

and the <strong>County</strong> Attorney’s Office. The communications center is a central<br />

hub for the dissemination of vital information to the various public safety<br />

agencies throughout the <strong>County</strong> and beyond.<br />

BELKNAP REGIONAL SPECIAL OPERATIONS GROUP<br />

The <strong>Belknap</strong> Regional Special Operations Group is staffed by police personnel<br />

from across the central lakes region. The unit is specially trained and equipped<br />

to respond to critical or high-risk incidents such as serving arrest warrants and<br />

search warrants involving known armed or violent offenders, barricaded or suicidal<br />

subjects, hostage situations, and other dynamic events. The team was activated<br />

6 times in <strong>2009</strong>. In addition members trained as a group 24 times during the<br />

year. Four public education and two public relations events were presented.<br />
