Holiday Jazz Concert with Chuck & Robert Redd
Saturday, December 22nd at 7pm
at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Oxford
Brighten your holiday season with exciting
jazz arrangements of favorite holiday
carols and songs! Holy Trinity is hosting
the second annual Redd Brothers Holiday
Jazz Concert on Saturday, December 22nd
at 7pm. We are excited to be able to share
this unticketed concert. A freewill offering
will be taken to cover artist fees.
Hearing and watching the musical
conversations between Chuck and Robert
Redd, one realizes how much they enjoy
each other’s company and musical talents.
They perform together as often as possible.
Chuck Redd is an accomplished performer
on the drums and vibraphone. He
can be found performing at the Monty
Alexander Jazz Festival (Easton), The
Mainstay (Rock Hall), on jazz cruises in the
Mediterranean, Dizzy’s Café (Lincoln Center),
Kennedy Center, The River Room of
Harlem, and numerous venues in Annapolis,
Washington DC, and throughout the
United States, Japan, and Europe. Recent
performances have included leading jazz
artists: Nicky Parrott, Bucky Pizzarelli,
and Ken Peplowski. Chuck has also toured
and performed with Charlie Byrd, Dizzy
Gillespie, Mel Torme, Monty Alexander,
The Barney Kessel Trio, and many others.
Chuck also enjoys teaching. Students
enjoy studying with Chuck at the University
of Maryland School of Music, often
sharing the stage with their teacher and
leading jazz musicians of our time. In addition
to performing and teaching in Jazz
Festivals and at the University, Chuck lectures
at The Strathmore Music Hall and
records. He has been featured on over 70
recordings.
Robert Redd has been a member of the
Wolf Trap Trio for many years, performing
over twenty-five concerts a year. Often he
is found performing at Blues Alley (Washington
DC), monthly at The Mainstay
(Rock Hall), Wolf Trap, Kennedy Center,
private clubs and parties. Robert is such a
versatile pianist he often performs with
Steve Abshire (guitar), Marty Nau (alto
saxophone), Sue Matthews (vocalist), The
Augie Swing Band, and Max ‘n Friends.
CDs will be available for sale at the
concert. Chuck’s recent 2011 Arbors release
The Common Thread features Mickey
Roker, Bob Cranshaw, Houston Person and
Rosaano Sportiello. When Redd is Blue is
a wonderful collaboration by Chuck and
Robert, along with saxophonist Harry
Allen. In the works is an upcoming release
with vocalist/bassist Nicki Parrott.
