CBMM Presents Waterfowling for Beginners Workshop
on December 8th
The Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum
(CBMM) in St. Michaels, MD is offering
a Waterfowling for Beginners
workshop on Saturday, December 8th. The
workshop combines practical hands-on waterfowling
skills with information about
gunning history, including the tools and
tales of outlaw gunners along the Chesapeake.
Held in the Van Lennep Auditorium
and along the museum’s waterfront campus,
the workshop welcomes newcomers to
the hunting blind, pit, or Chesapeake waterfront.
The workshop is generously sponsored
by Guyette, Schmidt & Deeter—the
world’s leading decoy auction firm, and
Judy and Henry Stansbury.
Through a series of breakout sessions
scheduled from 9:30am - 3pm, Waterfowling
for Beginners provides an opportunity
for participants to work with masters while
learning the basics of calling techniques, rig
layout and strategy, retriever skills, blind
placement, and brushing.
The cost to participate in the day-long
workshop is $45 for CBMM members, or
$55 for nonmembers, with lunch provided.

by a pre-registered adult
participant.
Beekeeping 2013 Session at WREC
Mike Embrey, University of Maryland
Extension Apiculturalist, will be offering a
beginning beekeeping class at the Wye Research
and Education Center in Queenstown,
Maryland. The first class will be
held on Saturday, January 19, 2013 from
9:00am – 12:00 noon. There will be a total
of seven classes, the first five will be held
every other Saturday until April. The two
final classes will be held in August and
September. Registration fee is $120.00,
which includes the textbook, “The Beekeeper’s
Handbook, Fourth Edition” by
Diana Sammataro. If you have your own
book, the fee will be $80.00.
You will learn about bees in general,
beekeeping equipment, how and where to
set up a hive, how to use a smoker, how to
hive a package of bees, about pests and diseases,
and winterizing your bees.
