Dhrubajyoti Kalita
Dibrugarh, ASSAM
Even though 12-year old
Dhrubajyoti Kalita lost the use
of his right leg when he was a
year and a half old, he did not lose
his sporting spirit! Overcoming his
disability, Dhrubajyoti has perfected
the art of playing many games.
Dhrubajyoti cycles and plays cricket
but his love for football surpasses all
– a passion inherited from his father
who is an active member of the
community sports club. His desire
to play football has made him devise
techniques of playing the game
using only one leg. Today, brave
Dhrubajyoti is living up to his name as
a resplendent star of his club’s Mini
Sub Junior Football Team. A gutsy
defender, Dhrubajyoti has represented
his team in the Mini Sub Junior
Football Competition organised by
Milan Jyoti Sangha in Dibrugarh. He
is now gearing to play the game with
more energy in the coming seasons –
as energetically as he plays traditional
Assamese instruments like the Dhol
and the Pepa!
“To see my little son play football is an unbelievable sight
for me. His never-say-die spirit is the pride of his club.”
Siba Kalita, Dhrubajyoti’s father
