The Youth President of Amberpet Village in Medak
District, Ganesh lives with his wife, his two
daughters and his parents. Daily life is tough. His
parents are agricultural labourers and Ganesh also works
in the fields. Busy days have not dimmed Ganesh’s
love for sports, though. A keen kabaddi player since his
school days, Ganesh participated in many district level
tournaments as a younger man. It is this passion that has
inspired him to volunteer as a Community Sports Coach for
his village over the last two years.
When Ganesh started, the village did not have a
playground. Now with support from the village
youth, a thorny patch has been cleared to serve
as a playground. More equipment and specialised
coaching may be needed but he is happy that today
in his present role, he is contributing in shaping the
future of his village. His work as a coach has shown
him the power sports has to bring about positive
social developments in his community. It has also
given him the confidence to use sport for dealing
with issues of environmental protection, proper
sanitation and personal hygiene. On top of all this,
he is doing his part to promote the general health
and fitness of his village by integrating sport into
their daily routine.
