44 Adibashi Brojen Sangha Dumdumi, WEST BENGAL “We want to represent India one day, so that people across the country get to know about our achievements and where we come from!” Keya Mudi When 12-year old adivasi girl, Tania Mudi, heard about a football coaching camp for girls in a neighbouring village, she persuaded her mother Bharati Mudi and her neighbour Tarulata Mudi – two community workers from Dumdumi village in West Bengal – to start a similar football coaching camp for their village. Sixteen tribal girls attended the first coaching camp of Adibashi Brojen Sangha. With such a great kick-off the goal was clear. Inspired by their enthusiasm and commitment, the number of girls has doubled in just two years. Empowering tribal girls with the ability to reach beyond the boundaries of traditional thinking, the Adibashi Brojen Sangha has reason to celebrate. The girls secured the third place in the State Level PYKKA Competition and two team members – Keya and Krishna Mudi – were also selected to represent the state at the National Level PYKKA Competition held in Bhopal in January 2010. The West Bengal Sports Council has also come forward to provide kits and footballs, and organise a one-month coaching camp for the girls.
