Student Awards<br />
About our Awards Program<br />
Student awards at <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Lakes</strong> <strong>College</strong> are designed to:<br />
• Assist students in meeting their financial obligations<br />
while attending the <strong>College</strong><br />
• Recognize academic excellence and other achievements<br />
• Provide opportunities for community and other<br />
organizations or individuals to support students and be<br />
recognized for support of education through donations<br />
for awards<br />
Scholarship: An award given in recognition of academic<br />
excellence or achievement.<br />
Bursary: A cash award given based on financial need.<br />
Prize: An award issued based on a specific outstanding<br />
accomplishment or contribution.<br />
Awards may also be established as a combination of any<br />
of the above. Additional requirements such as community<br />
involvement or leadership may also be specified.<br />
Applying for <strong>NLC</strong> Administered Student Awards<br />
Students wishing to be considered for most awards<br />
administered through the <strong>College</strong> Student Awards<br />
Committee complete the standard <strong>College</strong> Student Awards<br />
Application form. Additional attachments may be required<br />
depending on the type of award. Forms are available from<br />
<strong>College</strong> staff and the <strong>College</strong> website.<br />
Emergency Bursaries & Financial Aide<br />
The following financial aid sources are intended to assist<br />
students whose resources are normally adequate but<br />
whose immediate circumstances have created a financial<br />
crisis or limited shortage. Students are required to obtain<br />
the assistance of a <strong>College</strong> counsellor when applying for a<br />
Financial Need Bursary.<br />

Awards Eligibility General Guidelines<br />
Enrolment<br />
Unless otherwise indicated for a specific award, students<br />
must be enrolled in full-time studies to be eligible for<br />
awards.<br />
Achievement<br />
Scholarships: Standard for excellence as specified within<br />
the program of studies<br />
Prizes: As specified by donor<br />
Bursaries: Satisfactory progress as specified within the<br />
program of studies and demonstrated financial need.<br />
