Offering 3: Slave Lake – Jan. 14, 2013 to Feb. 22, 2013<br />

Offering 4: High Prairie – March 11, 2013 to April 19, 2013<br />

Offering 5: Slave Lake – April 29, 2013 to June 7, 2013<br />

Program Description<br />

The Emergency Medical Responder program is the first step<br />

toward a broadening career in emergency medical services.<br />

Successful completion of the EMR program allows graduates<br />

to work in entry level EMS positions and is a pre-requisite<br />

for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training.<br />

The program is delivered using distance delivery technologies,<br />

however students attend three 4-day, instructor-led, face-toface<br />

lab seminars at the central offering site. Costs associated<br />

with travel and accommodation for attending these labs are<br />

the student’s responsibility.<br />

Graduates of the program receive EMR certification. Note:<br />

Upon completion of this program, graduates are eligible to<br />

write the EMR Alberta Provincial Registration Exam. Please<br />

see the Alberta <strong>College</strong> of Paramedics website for more<br />

information (www.collegeofparamedics.org).This program<br />

follows all practice requirements as defined by the Alberta<br />

<strong>College</strong> of Paramedics.<br />

Employment Opportunities<br />

Graduates are eligible for registration with the Alberta<br />

<strong>College</strong> of Paramedics and for employment with rural or<br />

urban ground ambulances, fire departments and industrial<br />

first aide settings.<br />

Entrance Requirements<br />

• Minimum 17 years of age,<br />

• Must submit a health status form indicating good<br />

physical and emotional health,<br />

• Must have completed English 10-1 or 10-2 or<br />

equivalent; English 20-1 or 20-2 is recommended.<br />

Note: Upon graduation, a Criminal Record Check will likely<br />

be required by employers. Graduates of the Program will be<br />

eligible to write the Alberta <strong>College</strong> of Paramedics (ACP)<br />

exam once they are 18 years of age.<br />

If English is your second language, you must present one<br />

of the following assessments completed within the last two<br />

years:<br />

• CLBA 8 with no score less than 7<br />

• TOEFL Internet-based test score 84 (no section score<br />

below 21)<br />

• TOEFL paper-based test score 560 and TSE 50<br />

• TOEFL computer-based score 220 and TSE 50<br />

• TOEIC 730/790 and TSE 50<br />

• IELTS 6.0 (no band scores below 6.0)<br />

• CAEL 60 (no subtest below 60)<br />
